Season three of True Blood, entitled “Bad Blood” begins with Sookie Stackhouse running out of the restaurant where she and Bill had been dining. Bill has disappeared and Sookie is frantic.
Sam Merlotte is driving, keeping the note about his birth mother on his dashboard.
Jason Stackhouse is overwhelmed by the shooting of Eggs. He runs into his kitchen to find liquor. Tara is hysterical over the death of Eggs.
Jessica returns to Bill’s house to find the bouquet of roses that Hoyt left for her. She isn’t alone – she has brought “dinner” in the guise of a barely-living man.
Kidnappers have Bill subdued with a silver chain around his neck. Bill’s cellphone rings and one of the kidnappers see it is Sookie. The two kidnappers wonder if they should have taken her as well then one throws the cellphone out the window.
Sookie is talking to Deputy Kenya Jones about Bill’s disappearance. Sookie is becoming frustrated because she believes Kenya isn’t taking her seriously enough or hurrying enough. Sookie wants Kenya to file a missing persons report but Kenya tells her 48 hours is the requirement. She gives Sookie a ride home.
Inside Merlotte’s Andy Bellefleur is visibly uncomfortable while Arlene is giving her account of what happened when Eggs was killed. His cousin Terry Bellefleur tries to comfort him with encouraging words. Andy says “I love you cuz,” and Terry responds in kind, going further to tell Andy they need to tell each other that every day.
Tara gets into a screaming match with Arlene. She isn’t willing to believe that Eggs was a killer. Emotions run high and harsh words are exchanged before Lafayette ushers Tara out of the bar with a bottle of Tequila. Arlene responds with “I hate when they make everything about race!”
Jessica is upset over the man she brought to Bill’s house. She cries as she tried to figure out how to keep him alive. He calls her a whore. There is a car in the driveway – it is Sookie. Sookie tells her that Bill proposed to her and that he has been kidnapped. Sookie leaves then Jessica returns to her prey that she has hidden in the closet – it’s too late for him. She decides to bite her wrist and feed him her blood.
Bill is weakened by the silver chain his kidnappers put around his neck and by the fact that they are drinking blood from his arms. Two more kidnappers are in the car and the one in the front passenger seat wants vampire blood. One of the back seat kidnappers spits blood into his mouth.
Jason is cleaning up broken glass in his living room when he is surprised by Andy. Jason asks how Tara is and Andy tells her he is a mess. Jason says “I killed a man!” and Andy says “No, I killed a man.” Andy tells Jason there are holes in their story – and that he needs to see “a lot less conscience and a lot more cojones.” Andy tells Jason they need to act like normal – for Jason that is chasing women – which Andy urges him to do.
Sookie goes to the vampire bar, Fangtasia – Eric’s place. Pam tells her “I don’t remember telling you lavender is my favorite color.” Sookie tells her she doesn’t need any vampire lesbian crap tonight – she needs to see Eric. Pam tells her he is busy but Sookie sets off to find her himself – in the basement. Where is is “entertaining” a tied-up woman – Yvette. Eric interrupts his pleasure to listen to Sookie. Sookie tells him Bill has been kidnapped. Eric says that as Sheriff, he should look into Bill’s disappearance, even if he wants “what Bill’s got” – meaning Sookie. Sookie tells him to do it as she flounces up the stairs then tells him “By the way, you owe me $10,000.”
The kidnappers are high on Bill’s blood. They have apparently become careless enough for Bill to slip out of the silver chain. He snaps the neck of the driver and the car goes off the road, landing on its roof. A shirtless and blood Bill manages to crawl out of the car. He calls for Jessica, who is underneath Bill’s house with the man she is trying to turn into a vampire. She hears him and awakens.
Tara and Lafayette are at Sookie’s house. Tara is still crying as Sookie comes home. Lafayette tells Sookie what happened to Eggs. Sookie tells Tara Eggs came to her earlier wanting to know what he had done. Sookie helped him see. Tara becomes enraged and attacks Sookie, screaming. Lafayette pulls Tara off of Sookie and Tara leaves in a rage.
Eric is upset because apparently, he was behind the plot to kidnap Bill, but it looks as though those he contracted to take Bill did not do so. Pam tells Eric he needs to call the Queen, but Eric is not interested in listening to Pam. He mentions that the Queen will not be pleased that the one person – Bill – who could link she and Eric to the selling of vampire blood has disappeared.
Sam is looking in the phone book for people named Mickens. He is in a hotel room when a knock sounds on the door. It is Bill – telling him he needs help. Sam wonders how Bill found him in Arkansas and Bill reminds him that Sam has had his blood. Bill wants to use the shower and wants an extra shirt if Sam has it. There seems to be a strange sexual tension between the two of them and Bill asks Sam if he’d like to join him in the shower. Sam responds that he would. Sam’s cell phone rings and Bill tells him not to answer it as they start to kiss. . .then Sam awakes. He is in the hotel room and has been dreaming. His cellphone is ringing – it is someone who is offering information about Sam’s birth mother.
Jason and Hoyt are at work, cleaning up limbs. Hoyt is upset about his mother’s lies and says that the truth has set him free. Jason tells him that telling people the truth really messes up lives. Hoyt asks Jason if he can stay at his place and Jason is happy to let him.
Lettie May rushes home to see Tara. Lafayette is leaving and they exchange a few words – Lafayette is still upset about Lettie shooting a gun at him. She apologizes but Lafayette isn’t interested.
At the Sheriff’s department, Sookie is waiting on Bud Dearborn. The Sheriff wonders how a missing persons report can be filed on someone who isn’t even a real person. Sookie gives him a few words about her opinion then tells him she believes Lorena is responsible for Bill’s disappearance. Bud tells her he has dead bodies – human bodies – stacking up and that takes priority. Sookie is very unsatisfied with that response.
Sam pulls up to an auto garage. A young man named Tommy is working on a car. Sam is looking for Tommy Mickens, but is told that Tommy Mickens left several months ago. Sam tells the boy his name and walks away.
Tara lies with her head on her mother’s lap as Lettie’s pastor talks to her. Lettie says “it’s just you and me now.”
Bill is digging himself out of his hiding place in the ground. He smells something.
Jessica hears the phone ringing from her place in the crawlspace. She awakens and sees that her attempt at turning her victim into a vampire didn’t work. She is repulsed by the smell of the dead body. She rushes upstairs to answer the phone – it is Hoyt. She is happy to hear from him but tells him it’s a bad time. She hangs up on him.
At Fangtasia, Yvette is dancing while Eric watches. The Queen arrives with another man – the vampire Magister. Sophie-Ann tells Eric to make everyone leave. She has bugged his club. The Queen and the Magister are there to look into the V market. Eric and Sophie-Ann exchange several looks as they are trying to keep their selling of V quiet.
At Merlotte’s, Arlene is afraid she is pregnant. She is not happy. Jason is sitting at a booth with two women. He tells Hoyt to have a seat and a drink. They discuss dog psychology and the two women see Jason very clearly, but they are willing to go home with him. Andy watches their departure approvingly.
At Fangtasia, the Queen asks the Magister how the vampire who is selling V will be punished. The Magister agrees that there must be a speedy resolution. The Magister leaves then Eric tells Sophie-Ann that he doesn’t think the Magister believed them completely. Sophie-Ann tells Eric to sell everything quickly because she is broke and needs money. Eric stars to disagree with her to which she responds quickly and violently. She instructs him to sell the blood. After she is satisfied he is listening, Eric informs her of Bill’s disappearance. She isn’t interested.
At Sookie’s house, there is a visitor. It is Pam who has come to bring a check to Sookie. It is from Eric – the money he owed to her. Sookie asks if she has heard from Bill, but Pam has not. Pam shudders and informs Sookie she has had a “call” from Eric – her maker and she must leave. This gives Sookie the idea to get in touch with Jessica.
At Merlotte’s, Pam is telling Lafayette to sell all of his supply of V by the next morning. Lafayette begins to tell her he cannot sell it that quickly but she isn’t interested in his excuses.
Bill is walking through the woods when he comes upon a house that is lit up.
At Bill’s house, Sookie asks Jessica if she has heard from Bill. She explains what she witnessed with Pam and Jessica realizes she experienced the same thing the night before. Sookie wants Jessica to come with her to look for Bill. As they get ready to leave, Sookie wonders what the horrible smell in the house is. Jessica tells her a possum died under the house.
Bill has come upon a house – an elderly woman lives there. She lets him inside and he asks if she has a phone he can use. She tells him he doesn’t have one – she had to choose between her oxygen and a phone. She wonders what he might want to eat when Bill shows his fangs.
Tara is still depressed. Rev. Daniels is ready to leave and Lettie wants a hug. She seems to want more but the pastor pushes her away after a moment. Tara decides to go take a shower. She turns on the water and sits on the toilet with a blank look on her face.
Sam has followed the young man named Tommy. Tommy has gone home. Sam checks the mail box and sees the name Melinda Mickens – his birth mother. He stands and watches the house.
At Jason’s house, he is having difficulty with the woman he brought him. He sees a bullet hole in the woman’s forehead. The other woman comes into the room, but Jason is still have trouble. He now sees a bullethole on both of their foreheads and is unable to perform. He tells them what he sees and they are spooked, grab their clothes and leave.
At the old woman’s house, Bill glamours the woman into forgetting his visit. He asks her where she lives and her answer makes him realize he is in Mississippi. He gives the woman money and plants a memory of a visit from the woman’s son. Bill hears wolves howl and he leaves.
Lafayette comes back to Lettie May’s and asks where Tara is. Lettie tells him she is in the shower. “Alone?” he yells. In the bathroom, Tara is swallowing pills while Lafayette is beating on the door.
Sookie and Jessica are driving around, looking for Bill. Jessica has an impression of a location and Sookie sees the wrecked car. They pull the dead driver out of the car and notice a brand on his neck. Jessica searches the Internet on her phone to figure out what the symbol means. The symbol means “Operation Werwolf.”
Bill is running through the woods when five large wolves come upon him. They are snarling and have him surrounded. Bill tells them “I should warn you – I’ve fed.” The largest wolf – a black one – snarls and his eyes glow. Bill’s fangs come out and he snarls before advancing.
