True Blood‘s third episode begins with Sookie shooting at the wolfe coming toward her. Eric jumps in the way in order to get information from th werewolf. The wolf smells th vampire blood, changes into his human form and attacks Eric. Sookie shoots him in the leg. Eric tries to get th man to tell him who sent him but the man refuses and Eric bites him, killing him on the floor. He quips to Sookie that he got her rug all wet.
The King of Mississippi puts out the fire that has engulfed Lorena. Talbot complains that he used an antique tapestry. Russell chides Bill for his violence and reminds him to put away his fangs. It was Lorena who recommended Bill to work for the King. The King wonders why Bill doesn’t turn Sookie into a vampire so they can spend eternity together.
Eric digs a grave for the werewolf. Sookie asks how Eric’s bullet wound is and Eric hints that it would be better if she would remove it for him. She insists she will never do that again. Eric wants Sookie to go to Jackson – where he believes the werewolves are located. Sookie wonders if Eric will know if she gets into trouble.
Tara and Franklin are having mind-blowing sex. Tara tells him to bite her but he doesn’t – because she wants him to.
At the Mickens residence, Sam has words with Tommy. He doesn’t appreciate Tommy trying to get him killed. Melinda wants him to spend the night but Sam is hesitant. His parents have words of wisdom about alcoholism and marriage.
Hoyt is sleeping on Jason’s couch and Jason has decided that he wants to become a cop. Hoyt is skeptical.
Tara asks Franklin “What the hell just happened?” They talk about the altercation earlier where Tara beat up rednecks. Franklin wonders about Tara’s life – if she has a husband or a boyfriend, and he wants to know her name but Tara gets nervous and wants to go home.
At Fangtasia, Pam is having some fun with Yvette when she stops to answer the phone. It is Jessica – she wants to know how to deal with the dead body.
Sam is back at Merlotte’s and Sookie is explaining that she needs time off to go to Mississippi. She asks Sam to keep an eye on Jessica to keep her from “doing anything horrible.” Sam notices the ring on Sookie’s finger.
At Jason’s, Hoyt is going over police academy test questions. Hoyt wants to talk about his relationship with Jessica. Jason surmises that Jessica can’t handle Hoyt’s “heat.” Jason wonders if there’s an easier to become a cop and is sure he’s qualified. “I’m a ninja-level marksman” he muses.
At the doctor, Arlene is having an ultrasound and sees the baby she is pregnant with. The doctor tells her she is nine or 10 weeks pregnant – and Arlene is more than a little surprised.
At Merlotte’s, Tara answers the phone. It is Mike Spencer – the coroner. He tells her that the funeral for Eggs is going on and thought she might want to be there. Once Tara arrives, she discovers that nobody has come for the funeral. She wonders who paid for the funeral and Sookie speaks up – she paid for it. They talk and Sookie wants Tara to come back to stay at her house.
In 1868, Bill is walking through the cemetery. He comes up to his house – he is met at the door by his wife holding a shotgun. She is happy to see him after not seeing him for three years and tells him that their son has died from smallpox. Bill cries tears of blood and Caroline sees. Bill tells her that he is there to bury their son. She becomes frightened and picks up the shotgun. She shoots him in the shoulder then runs – only to run into Lorena outside the door. Caroline is near hysteria. Bill awakens and has been dreaming.
Jason is in a room taking the police academy test. He looks at the papers and the words are hieroglyphics. He takes the test to the instructor, who has a bullet hole in his forehead then realizes he has no pants on. The other students have bullet holes in their foreheads. He is awakened by Lafayette. He is at work for the county road crew. Hoyt yells for everyone to come to the ditch where he is working – he has found a headless body.
Back at home, Sookie begins scrubbing the blood off of her porch. She “hears” someone’s thoughts. She realizes it is a werewolf and she runs but he catches her. He tells her that Eric Northman sent him and his name is Alcide Herveaux.
At Merlotte’s, the Mickens family comes to visit. Sam is perplexed that they have come to visit him and they are impressed by the bar he owns.
At the body in the ditch – the body has no head or hands and no blood. Andy Bellefleur surmises that a vampire is the culprit. Bud Dearborn becomes angry and declares that he quits – he’s had it with dealing with all the murders. He exclaims “There are gaps in my brain and polyps in my ass!” thanks to his many years as a cop.
At Sookie’s house, she is having coffee with Alcide. He discovers that Sookie really can read minds and is a little disturbed. They talk about what is going to happen in Jackson.
Bill is still dreaming – remembering. His wife Caroline asks Bill what Lorena is. She begs Bill to kill her. Lorena directs Bill to make Caroline forget. He finishes burying his son and Lorena tells him “the only way to show your love for a human is to stay away – forever.” He cries bitter tears. Bill awakens – bloody tears streaming down his face.
At the King’s mansion, Cooter the werewolf is telling Russell that someone got one of his men. Bill enters the room and tells the King that he renounces his fealty to the Queen of Louisiana and pledges loyalty to the King of Mississippi. The King declares that the girl – Sookie – is not needed. Lorena is angry over this.
At Merlotte’s, Jason talks to Tara. He says he is happy to see her working again. In his fumbling Jason way, he tells Tara that she is like a sister and if she needs to talk she can talk to him. He sees a bullet hole in Tara’s forehead.
At Lafayette’s house, someone is honking a horn outside. It is Eric in a fancy convertible. Lafayette tells Eric that he needs more time to move his supply of V. Eric has brought a gift for his top salesman – a car. Eric tells Lafayette that he is valuable due to his network and skills with selling drugs. Eric gets out of the car and is gone.
At Merlotte’s, Terry wonders why Arlene is avoiding him. She tells Terry that she is going to have a baby and before she can tell him it isn’t his, he becomes excited and is jumping for joy.
Sam’s family has been enjoying the alcohol. Sam and Joe Lee have words as Sam is upset that they have been buying shots for Tommy, who is underage. Melinda breaks up the party and asks “See you soon?”
At Bill’s house, Jessica answers a knock at the door. It is Franklin. She shows her fangs to scare him off and he shows his fangs. He walks in the door and Jessica insists he cannot enter a home without an invitation. Franklin tells her that only applies to a human house and this house is owned by a vampire. Franklin quizzes Jessica about anyone who has gone missing. Franklin pulls out the head of the man Jessica killed from a shopping bag. Franklin wants Jessica to tell him everything he knows about Bill Compton.
Back at home Jason decides to give up the idea of becoming a cop.
Sam is asleep in his trailer when a motion sensor goes off in the bar. He gets up and enters the bar with gun drawn. Someone is in the office and has been going through things – looking for money. A bird flies out of the window and Sam finds someone’s clothes on the floor.
In Jackson, Sookie and Alcide enter a were bar. Sookie is concerned that she is not dressed appropriately. Alcide tells Sookie that he will sit with his guys while she peruses the room trying to get information. She walks up to a group of men to listen to them. She manages to find one man who knows something about Bill. He takes her into a back room and rips her shirt. She screams and Alcide intervenes, starting a fight with the other were. The bar bouncer tells Alcide that his ex – Debbie Pelt – “aint worth it.” He tells Alcide that Debbie is getting engaged – to Cooter.
At Sookie’s house, Franklin has managed to find Tara – and he knows her name. Tara wonders how he knew her name. He explains that he had a conversation with an annoying baby vampire who told him a lot of information. He wants Tara to invite him in – but she refuses. He glamours her and she invites him inside.
At the King’s mansion, Lorena taunts Bill in his room. Lorena says that Bill will say anything to save his human waitress. Bill tells Lorena she has won – she has deprived him of his freedom, his home, his humanity – and he will never, ever love her. He attacks her then forces himself upon her. He twists her head around backwards while he is on top of her and she purrs that she has always loved him.
