Rashad vs Rampage was the big event of UFC 114. The Rashad vs Rampage results were expected to make UFC 114 particularly brutal – and they almost had to be after the hype. Rashad Evans and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson had built up a deep seated hatred for each other, which would pay off in the octagon. As such, UFC 114 became a massive pay-per-view event, as fans waited to see how the two rivals would destroy each other. But the Rashad vs Rampage results only had one fighter causing destruction, as Evans took a relatively easy win.
The headline fight of UFC 114 put two of the sports’ biggest names against each other. As the buildup to the fight proved, they had no love lost during Jackson’s absence from ultimate fighting. He had waited over a year for this, after filling Mr T’s Mohawk in “The A-Team” remake.
But after the Rashad vs Rampage results came in, Jackson wound up blaming the movie for his disappointing performance. Evans took an unanimous decision, as there were no big knockouts or bloody battles to speak of. In fact, the UFC 114 main event was proclaimed a letdown by many, after all the buildup.
The Rashad vs Rampage fight had Evans easily dominate the first two rounds. Instead of pounding Jackson, Evans took advantage of his rust and let him look bad himself. With that, he didn’t need to bloody him up to win, and by the time Jackson got desperate in the third and final round, it was too late.
Despite the win, Evans didn’t win over disappointed fans in the MGM Grand. Yet the result of Rashad vs Rampage made Evans the next challenger for champion “Shogun” Rua. However, all the post-fight talk was about a rematch with Jackson, in spite of how the fight went.
Jackson, for his part, continued to insist that Evans could “kiss my a**” even as he gave him credit for a good fight. He also used “The A-Team” as an excuse for his rust, and even claimed that FOX threatened to sue him if he lost. If FOX figured that UFC 114 would be a great place to promote “The A-Team” thanks to Jackson, they were dead wrong by the end.
The Rashad vs Rampage results made UFC 114 a major event, at least before the fight started. Now Evans and Jackson will move on to even bigger things, which may or may not include a rematch. If they do fight again eventually, fans may have to measure their anticipation more closely.
