For years people have brought their families to enjoy festivities in one of Raleigh’s favorite and tradition-filled venues. The NC State Fairgrounds, Jim Graham Building, Dorton Arena and Exposition Center provide ideal backdrops for indoor and outdoor July 4th activities.
Raleigh NC Fairgrounds Events-2010 Independence Day Celebration
The best thing about Raleigh’s July 4th events at the NC State Fairgrounds is the price tag: Free!
That’s right. Free admission, free parking and a vast array of free activities will please young and old alike. Organizers from the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department have collaborated with the North Carolina State Fair in planning events to engage the entire family.
July 4th Fireworks Celebration and Activities at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds
Events include sports-themed activities as well as Independence Day hat-making crafts. Picture red-white-and-blue materials and who else but Uncle Sam? Guests can participate in a selection of arts, dance instruction, a Nature program and Adventure program. Other featured events include a Taiko Japanese drumming performance and a Holiday Express exposition. Raleigh Police and Fire Departments will sponsor special displays.
Dorton Arena will feature a giant obstacle course. In addition, Design-a-Park activities, Wii games, a scavenger hunt, Bingo and a variety of other games rank high on the list of things to do.
July 4th in Raleigh, North Carolina–Traditional Summertime Eating
Food vendors will be located on-site and carry refreshing beverages and traditional holiday items in addition to traditional menu faire.
What is a July 4th celebration without watermelon? The North Carolina Watermelon Association will provide a “Got-to-be-NC-Watermelon Cutting beginning at 5:00 p.m. and last as long as their juicy, delicious slices last.
2010 Firework Displays in Raleigh, North Carolina
A spectacular firework display will begin at 9:15 p.m.
This event regularly attracts Raleigh crowds as well as folks who make the trek from miles afar. Seating is in short supply, so attendees should bring lawn chairs and blankets or quilts for settling down in true southern comfort.
Guests should also abide by the venue’s regulations. No alcohol, no coolers are allowed. For the comfort of all guests, pets are not allowed within event areas.
Accessible parking and general public parking is available in Gate 4 and Gate 9. Free parking is available in fairground lots near Gate 9 on Trinity Road and Gate 4 Youth Center Road. Handicapped parking access is through Gate 9 on Trinity Road.
If inclement weather threatens, all activities will go on as scheduled, except for the fireworks display. In case of rain, the fireworks show will take place on July 5th at 9:15 p.m.
Additional Fun Things To Do in Raleigh NC near the NC State Fairgrounds Complex
The North Carolina State Fairgrounds sponsors the largest indoor-outdoor weekly flea market in the state. Approximately 350 full-service RV access sites are located on the grounds. They are convenient to I-40, I-440 and I-540. The fairgrounds lie close to a numerous restaurants, catering facilities, hotels and shopping centers.
