I own a few of the Rachael Ray cooking supplies, and this set of two Rachael Ray Lazy Spoon® and Lazy Ladle® kitchen tools are very unique and handy to have when cooking a large pot of soup, stew, or foods that need to simmer for several hours.
The set is sold at Target stores, and features two silicone spoons in three different colors: royal blue, light green and orange. One spoon reminds me of a wooden style spoon, the bowl is quite flat and it is great for stirring foods, especially when using non-stick cookware, since the soft silicone won’t scratch these delicate surfaces.
The second spoon has a very deep bowl, and looks like a combination of a spoon and a ladle in one tool. This spoon would not only be suitable for cooking, but also for serving your food into bowls or onto plates. The spoons measure nearly a foot long, and are quite sturdy and feel very hefty in the hand.
So far these sound like many other cooking utensils that can be found in the grocery store, but the Rachael Ray Lazy Spoon® and Lazy Ladle® spoons are unique in that each of them has a deep groove built into the handle, and you can actually rest the handle of the spoon right on the lip of a pot or pan! I have never seen a spoon with this feature, and it comes in very handy if you are cooking messy foods like spaghetti sauce. You won’t have to worry about getting the counter or stove top dirty by dripping food, and you don’t need a spoon rest (unless you need to cook with the lids on).
The two spoons have notches in different places on the handle. The notch on the flat Lazy Spoon® is near the center, and the notch on the Lazy Ladle® is closer to the bowl of the spoon, which helps balance the weight more evenly. These seem nicely balanced! The information that comes with the spoons claims that these can be heated to 500 degrees, much like silicone spatulas.
When it comes time to wash the Rachael Ray Silicone Spoons, they can be washed right in the convenience of your dishwasher. I am a little cautious when I wash items such as these, and tend to place them on the top rack of my dishwasher just to be safe, and these come out looking like new, even the colors do not seem to fade.
The set of two Rachael Ray Rachael Lazy Spoon® and Lazy Ladle® is nearly $20.00, but since these will last a long time it seems like a good value to me. I have paid as much for a quality wooden spoon that ended up breaking on me after just one or two years of use.
My only complaint is the choice of colors. I don’t really care for any of the available colors for these spoons, and I wish they were available in more traditional colors.
