Before we left for our vacation in Hawaii, I had my hair trimmed. I didn’t want it to have that “just cut” look, and this turned out to be a poor decision on my part. Just a day in Hawaii and I soon realized that I was not going to be able to maintain my hairstyle in the hot humid environment.
I always curl my bangs under slightly using a curling iron, but even when I used a heat setting spray my hair would not hold the curl. Because of this my bangs were continually in my eyes and they were driving me nuts. It was time to take matters into my own hands and purchase a pair of hair scissors. The condo we stayed at did not have a pair of scissors anywhere (except kitchen scissors, and believe me I did try to use those).
Here at home I do have a pair of hair scissors, but I didn’t take them with me on the airplane because they have sharp tips, and the last time I traveled by air my hair scissors were confiscated due to the tighter restrictions with carry on baggage. I didn’t want to risk that again.
I found a pair of QVS 6″ Hair Scissors at Longs Drugs in Kona, Hawaii. They had several styles to choose from, but after reading the packaging these seemed perfect for my needs. They come in a clear plastic package, and there is a dotted line across the top that you need to snip off (enter kitchen scissors), and the plastic package now becomes the plastic storage pouch, except there is no way to keep it closed. The QVS nail clippers and tweezers that I purchased were packaged in this same exact manner.
The packaging states that these have hardened stainless steel blades, an adjustable tension screw, and a finger rest. Although I can’t see it with the naked eye, they also claim to have “micro-serrated” blades. What sold me on these scissors was the statement that they are “Super sharp, professional quality scissors” that “Offer superior, precision cutting and control”.
I will admit that the molded plastic handles are very comfortable in the hand, and I like the finger rest, a feature that my other hair scissors do not have. The package insert warns you not to over tighten the tension screw because it is very sensitive. I have not touched it because the scissors open and close very smoothly.
As far as performance, I like my original pair of hair scissors much better. The blades are thinner, making them less bulky and easier to use than these QVS Hair Scissors. They got the job done, but they also cost much more than my other scissors. The QVS pair retailed for around $14.00.
They do come with a quality guarantee, but you need to actually ship the scissors back to the company, and the only address listed is in Australia. Even if I did return them, they don’t say they will refund my money, just send a replacement. I’m pretty sure if I didn’t like these I wouldn’t like to have them replaced!
QVS 6″ Hair Scissors are made and packaged in China for QVS Global worldwide.
