I love renowned hairstylist’s Ken Paves and his faux hair products. They make me feel pretty by supplementing or repairing the faults of my own hair, which are many.
When it comes to Ken’s products, few are as good; as much fun; or as well done as his ponytails. Previously, I reviewed his classic 18″ straight ponytail version.
This time around I am reviewing the very different 10″ curly version. Although it comes pre-styled in a soft curl, it can be straightened with a hot iron for those who prefer to wear it straight. The key is not to use a flat iron that heats above 350 Fahrenheit.
The 10″ curly pony comes in two options – the standard and the “bump up.” Both are cute, bouncy, and full of personality. There is a difference between the standard and the bump up version. The latter includes moldable wire that allows the wearer to position the piece higher or lower by moving it.
Like all of Ken’s wonderful hairpieces, his ponytails come in multiple colors. These include black, dark brown, medium brown, light brown, red brown, medium red brown, red blonde, dark blonde, dark golden blonde, medium golden blonde and light golden blonde.
Ken’s heat-friendly 100% polyester hair offers variety that isn’t usually seen in a synthetic product. It is not only true to life in look, but it styles and washes like real hair. Because each one comes with 12 shades of the chosen color family, it can be blended with virtually any hair color.
Lightweight and easy to apply, these ponytails wrap around your own hair making them virtually undetectable. To apply, pull your own hair into a ponytail. Then place the comb of the hairpiece into your hair at the ponytail mid-point.
Wrap the Velcro portion of the faux pony around your own hair and secure tightly. Finally, using the long, attached wrap around piece, cover the area where the pony is attached. Secure it in place with hairpins and you are ready to go with a perfect, casual, fun look each and every time. If you want, you can use the moldable wire of the bump up pony to move your tail into the position you desire.
The 10″ ponytail is inexpensive too at $38 for the bump up version and $34 for the standard. Available at beauty boutiques like Ulta, online and at QVC, they are easy to find and fun to wear.
Here is my summary review:
Ease of application: 4 stars. It will take some practice to get the ponytail positioned and secured in place but after you get the hang of it, you will be able to do it in seconds.
Color match: 3 stars. Each color comes with a mixture of 12 shades; making a match an almost certainty. Ken does; however, need to work on his red ponys. They appear too blonde or brown, making a true blend difficult to achieve.
Appearance: 5 stars. I actually prefer the 18″ myself but the 10″ is cute and sassy.
Maintenance: 4 stars. Wash it with light shampoo and let it dry out flat. It couldn’t be easier.
Ease of purchase: 5 stars. I got mine at QVC. Making a purchase there is a breeze and there is never a problem with their money-back guaranty.
Price: 4 stars. $38 is still a lot of money in this economy. However, a guaranty that I won’t have another bad hair day makes it worth it to me. And ponytails are definitely back in style!
Claim accuracy: 5 stars. It is a beautiful hairpiece and styles as promised.
Product purchase probability: 5 stars. I love Ken’s products. I’ll always go back for more.
Retailer purchase probability: 5 stars. I rarely find anything at QVC that doesn’t work.
Final rating: 4.4 stars. It’s a real winner.
