Animal for Preschool Alphabet Lesson Plan: Letter D
D is for duck! Take some time to talk about ducks with your preschool students. Information about ducks can be found here and here. A coloring picture of a duck can be found here. Have your preschool students color the duck yellow and trace the word duck beneath the picture. Remind them throughout the lesson that the word duck starts with the letter D.
Note: Keep the finished coloring pictures to add to an Alphabet Animals book that your preschool students can put together after you have studied all of the letters A-Z.

Shape for Preschool Alphabet Lesson Plan: Letter D
Circle: You can incorporate the shape of a circle into your letter D preschool lesson plan with the help of “D is for duck.” For example, in art projects, have your preschool students use circles for duck eyes and for the blue ponds that ducks paddle on.

Here are some snacks that start with the letter D:

Art Activity for Preschool Alphabet Lesson Plan: Letter D
Set out sheets of thin white paper, yellow crayons and paper doilies. Have the children place doilies beneath the white paper and then make prints of them by rubbing the side of a yellow crayon (paper covering removed) over the areas covering the doilies. Be sure to talk about how the word doily starts with the letter D.
Note: You can also use doilies in your letter D preschool lesson plan by placing clean paper doilies beneath your preschool students’ snacks instead of paper towels or paper plates.
Letter Recognition for Preschool Alphabet Lesson Plan: Letter D
Provide your students with a sheet of paper printed with several letters of the alphabet. Let your students use a pencil or yellow crayon to circle all of the letters D and d that they find. For fun, cut the paper into a duck shape.
Sensory Activity for Preschool Alphabet Lesson Plan: Letter D
Fill your preschool classroom’s sensory table with items that begin with the letter D. Some letter D items that you might add to the sensory table are dominoes. You can mix the dominoes in with rice or sand and let your preschool students find them, scoop them and pour them.
Another idea for your sensory table is to fill it with water and add a few yellow rubber ducks.
Dramatic Play Activity for Preschool Alphabet Lesson Plan: Letter D
D is for dress up! Bring in a few special dress up items for your preschool classroom’s dramatic play area. These can include top hats, tiaras, Halloween princess and super hero costumes and play make-up.
