Animal for Preschool Alphabet Lesson Plan: Letter C
C is for cat! Take some time to talk about cats with your preschool students. Information about cats can be found here and here. A coloring picture of a cat can be found here. Have your preschool students color the picture orange (like an orange tabby cat) and trace the word cat beneath the picture. Remind them throughout the lesson that the word cat starts with the letter C.
Note: Keep the finished coloring pictures to add to an Alphabet Animals book that your preschool students can put together after you have studied all of the letters A-Z.

Orange certainly doesn’t start with the letter C, but it is a fun color to use in a lesson plan that includes cats.
Shape for Preschool Alphabet Lesson Plan: Letter C
Rectangle: Reinforce your preschool students’ familiarity with the shape of a rectangle by using long thing rectangles as cat whiskers on your flannel board and in art projects.

Art Activity for Preschool Alphabet Lesson Plan: Letter C
Let your preschool students take turns at the classroom art easels to paint cats. As always, it is the process, not the final product, that is important. Provide them with sheets of white paper and orange paint. After they paint the body, head (encourage your students to add eyes,ears, a nose and a mouth with orange, brown and pink paints) and tail of the cat, let your students glue on long, thin rectangles cut from brown construction paper for cat whiskers.
Letter Recognition for Preschool Alphabet Lesson Plan: Letter C
Provide your students with a sheet of paper printed with several letters of the alphabet. Let your students use a pencil or orange crayon to circle all of the letters C and c that they find. For fun, cut the paper into cat shapes.
Sensory Activity for Preschool Alphabet Lesson Plan: Letter C
Fill your preschool classroom’s sensory table with items that begin with the letter C. Some letter C items that you might add to the sensory table are hard kernels of corn or corn cobs. You can mix these items in with rice or sand and let your preschool students find them, scoop them and pour them. Talk about how corn is a C word.
Dramatic Play Activity for Preschool Alphabet Lesson Plan: Letter C
Coolers and cats: Add a cooler or two to your dramatic play area for students to fill with their toy foods and drinks. Also, bring in several stuffed cats for them to play with in the dramatic play area. Remind your preschool students from time to time that the words cooler and cat start with the letter C.
