It was a night of thrills, chills, and dreams fulfilled. A sea of stars rested against the waves of anticipation, and soft smiles flickered against brilliance. Eyes lit up as the stage came alive, and honor rose to those who raised the bar for others to follow. Applause was the thunder against a storm of immense talent battling toward victory but, no matter the loss, they were all still heroes that would shine again. And the envelope please to name the fan favorite, giving voice to those hungering to see their favorite win, and the competition grew hot and heavy. And the Popcorn Man waited by the podium with award in hand, and a name emanated through the microphone. And the stars lit up the night with laughter, hope, and tears. Here are three highlights of the MTV Movie Awards…
3. Comedic Genius
Tearing down the walls to outrageous, shocking, side-splitting movies such as Bringing Down The House, Old School, and Road Trip arrives The Hangover, a movie that would forever stand alone with an unforgettable cast of characters. Intensity ricochets through insanity as we are pulled into an onslaught of scenarios beyond reasonable thought, but we can’t turn away but crave more of the ludicrous adventures that spiral every which way. But the heart and soul of drama waits for a pulse to beat against the barrels of laughter that leave us in tears and gasps for air, and these men before us hold us captive to their dilemma, their desperate search to find their friend. But through this comedic genius, there are two that continue to keep us rolling, holding our sides, and begging for more, and they are Zach Galifianakis and Ken Jeong. Both were nominated in different categories, Best Comedic Performance and a WTF Moment, and both succeeded in not only winning the hearts and minds of their fans but also in receiving their first, and hopefully not last, rich, golden MTV popcorn award.
2. While You Were Dreaming
Remember that movie, Love Potion No. 9? It lingered between the lines of comedy and romance, and it was there that I first saw her. A down to earth, sweet persona swept across the screen, but her eyes burned with intensity, mystery. A talent was waiting to shine, and her wings started to spread, soaring over movies such as The Net, Practical Magic, Forces of Nature, and Murder by Numbers. She was reaching toward greater heights, and she was dreaming of that sea of stars. But while she was dreaming, she had hardly time to blink, melting into characters that stole into our hearts or held us to the trials that they had to face, and we fell in love with her. And her wings now touch the strings of inspiration, lifting our spirits because nothing is impossible anymore as long as you have a dream, and tonight, we say thank you. Thank you for the memories, Sandra Bullock, who truly deserved MTV’s Generation Award.
1. Tropic Hangover
What do tigers dream? Is it soft clouds of peace but not from sedatives served in raw steak? Is it escape from the confines of this crazy world, where anything is possible after a wild night of Vegas? Who knows? All I know is that The Hangover boys were bitchslapped by none other than Les Grossman of Tropic Thunder. This overbearing, arrogant, ruthless man stormed the stage and rocked the night, splitting sides, and commanding all attention to his overwhelming persona, but behind the mask is none other than Tom Cruise, who has once again succeeded in mesmerizing us with another unforgettable character. But where was he during that Avatar musical? We could have used one more performance from Mr. Grossman to end the night, but could he hold a candle to the electric performance of Christine Aguilera or California sunshine, Katy Perry? A man like this? I would think so, so step back and let Les Grossman through.
