Pocono Sunoco Red Cross 500 NASCAR 2010 August 1st: Las Vegas Odds & Picks

by itchy fish

NASCAR makes it’s second trip of the year to Pocono and this may be just as predictable as the June race that preceded. NASCAR fans are in for 480 miles of boredom and 20 miles of beatin and bangin bumper cars. Denny Hamlin was an expert of Pocono from his first practice.

The unique tri-oval is tough to figure out for some and Jamie McMurray, the winner of the Brickyard 400 said in victory lane I don’t look forward to Pocono. He was already thinking about it. The strange thing about that is, drivers that race well at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway usually do well on odd shaped tri-oval that is Pocono.

Denny Hamlin at 5-2 Can’t be Ignored in the Pocono 500 He is Too Good

Denny Hamlin is the favorite to win the Pocono 500 according to the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook. Hamlin is a 5-2 favorite to complete the sweep and his teammate Kyle Busch is also capable of running up front all race long. Hamlin’s style fits Pocono like a glove and although Hamlin is a short price he is at minimum a cover best but it is better to make the best on Denny Hamlin at 5-2 to win the Pocono 500.

Juan Montoya at 25-1 is a Great Choice to Win Pocono 500

Juan Montoya experienced another devastating loss at the Brickyard 400 for the second year in a row. Montoya’s luck at Indianapolis in NASCAR has been non existent and he has to feel Indianapolis owes him one. On to Pocono and another track that drives similar to Indianapolis. Juan Montoya can run well in clean air with his Target Chevy and if he qualifies well, Montoya is a great choice at 25-1 to win the Pocono 500.

Kurt Busch at 15-1 is a Solid 3rd Choice to Win Pocono 500

Kurt Busch has won at Pocono and he has always been known as a wheel man. The interesting thing about Pocono is the drivers that can drive smooth and conserve fuel, can get lucky once in a while when there are not any late race cautions. Then again this is NASCAR, there is amost always a late race caution. Take Kurt Busch as a small bet and a third choice at 15-1 to win the Pocono 500.

Dale Earnhardt Jr at 50-1 Has No Business Winning Pocono 500 But–

It is always fun to take a shot at a long shot but Dale Earnhardt Jr? There is absolutely no reason to take Dale Jr to win the Pocono 500, he is 50-1 to win for a reason. The Las Vegas Hilton Superbook probably makes several thousand dollars a week off of optomistic Dale Jr fans. Take Dale Earnhardt Jr to win as a long shot at 50-1 in the Pocono 500.
