Phil’s Frosty Diner in Shady Cove, OR

by itchy fish

Phil’s Frosty is easy to spot from the road. With its bubblegum pink painted exterior it can’t be missed. Phil’s Frosty certainly caught our eye as we were on the hunt for a diner on our drive through Oregon. It looked like a decent place to eat and I was sure that the food would be fresh and delicious and just what we were looking for.

When driving through Shady Cove you will find Phil’s Frosty serving up diner classics such as the patty melt, polish sausages, and even ice cream. You can get chili cheese fries, onion rings, or even nachos as well as many other selections and specials. For just over $20 my family of five ate well here. So how did the food taste?

My husband got the patty melt and said it was everything he had expected. It was warm, delicious, and served up diner style in a paper basket. The bread was thick, the cheese was cheesy, and the beef was aplenty. I opted for the polish sausage, as I am a lover of sausage, and it had lots of flavor and was served up in a nice sized bun. We shared an order of onion rings as well. They weren’t the best I ever had but that doesn’t mean they weren’t tasty and satisfying. My daughter got the cheese nachos and my youngest had the corn dog. The nacho cheese actually had flavor to it. This is important as a lot of the time when you buy cheap nachos you get cheap flavor. The corn dog was warm and nothing out of the usual.

After we had our lunch we couldn’t resist having some of the Umpqua ice cream they served there. We got two baby bowls of ice cream. One was the huckleberry cheesecake and the other a rainbow sherbet. We also order two “small” cones choosing the chocolate brownie and the peanut butter cup ice creams. The ice cream was overflowing out of the cones. I would not have expected to get so much ice cream for just $1.90 each! The baby was only $1.60 a piece. You have to see the ice cream picture accompanying this article to get the full effect of just how much ice cream you get. That is one of the best reasons to eat at a little diner or dive, the value.

The exterior of the restaurant has picnic tables to sit and eat at. Inside of the restaurant is a bit small and you are sure to find some regulars in there. The decor is simple as you can tell the restaurant cares more about the quality of the food than ambiance. There are a few arcade games as well to keep the kids busy while they are waiting for their food.

So if you happen to drive through Shady Cove, OR make sure to stop off at Phil’s Frosty for tasty treats and a real value. You won’t be sorry!
