I am super excited to attend Philly Beer Week 2010. It will be my first time. I am looking forward to all the tasty beers and especially the beer specials. What makes this event so desirable is that in the February 2010 issue of Maxim magazine they named Philly the best beer city in America. This event takes place June 4th-13th. I am saving up my calories for a fun filled beer drinking jolly old time. There are 1,000 events at 195 venues. You can even create your own custom personalized list of all your favorite events @ http://my.phillybeerweek.org/. When you visit this website it will give you a run down on how to do so and it is fairly easy.
There are dozens of brewers and beer reps throughout Philly beer week. My taste buds are going to be on a heavenly beer vacation. Some of the Brewer’s include Local Heroes such as: Victory Brewing Company, Lancaster Brewing Company, Yuengling, Philadelphia Brewing Company, and Sly Fox just to name a few.
The prices and events vary. The opening Tap is the official opening of the beer fest and it starts out with a beer bang. Witness the tapping of the first keg. You can clink your glasses right in front of the Liberty Bell. It’s a showcase of the regions fine breweries. This features local brews such as, Nodding Head, Yuengling, and Philadelphia B.C. This event takes place on June 4th at 7:30 PM at the Independence Visitor Center. Tickets are $40. Beer friendly food is also served for an additional price. Obviously you must be 21 an over to attend.
The International Great Beer Expo which takes place on June 5th is going to be held at the Navy Yard. This event looks like tons of fun. Tickets are $45 online or $60 at the door so I suggest purchasing tickets to this event in advance. There are 2 sessions the first is from 12:30PM-4PM and the second is 5:30-9PM. Tickets include a 6oz. tasting glass the ability to walk and taste from participating breweries such as Dragon Stout, Bitburger, and Hoppin Frog. Food is also available for purchase.
Another event I can’t wait to attend is the first annual Forum of The Gods. This beer blow out is held on June 10th from 3-5PM. It is located at Johnny Brenda’s Upstairs Venue. Tickets are $25 and include samples from each participating brewery such as Boston Brewery, Yards Brewing, and Southampton Publick House.
If you are looking for an affordable near by hotel your best bet is the Radisson Plaza Warwick Hotel. This hotel is in walking distance from many of the events so you don’t need to worry about having a few too many. Feel free to visit: http://www.radisson.com/beer for rates, dates and prices.
