The PGA Championship 2010 leaderboard should have been partly filled by now. At this point, the PGA Championship 2010 leaderboard would have a few early frontrunners. But the leaderboard has absolutely no names on it, as of 11:15 a.m. est. That is because the first tee off of the tournament took place five minutes earlier, instead of three hours earlier. Thanks to fog, the PGA Championship 2010 leaderboard is blank this morning, and won’t get even partly filled until late this afternoon.
The original plan was to have Jason Day, Scott Hebert, Tim Petrovic, Rich Steinmetz, Vaughn Taylor and Bo Van Pelt start the tournament at 8 a.m. est. However, fog made that quite impossible, as Whistling Straits started to look even more like a British Open course.
If not for the fog, the PGA Championship 2010 leaderboard would show at least a few names off to a good start. In fact, Tiger Woods was scheduled to tee off at 9:20 a.m., so he would have had a telling morning by now. Instead, Woods will tee off at 12:20 p.m. est, and most of his round will get to air on TNT this afternoon.
By mid-afternoon, the PGA Championship 2010 leaderboard will actually start to form. But, given this three-hour delay, the first round may not be completely finished by everyone today. TNT’s TV coverage ends at 8 p.m. est, 7 p.m. Wisconsin time, so that is a possible deadline.
This is the second straight major to have an odd delay early on. The British Open got delayed by wind during the second round last month. However, a lot of action happened before the delay, whereas the PGA Championship 2010 leaderboard has nothing to show before this one.
Back in the British Open, Louis Oosthuizen built up his lead before the wind delay. Thanks to the conditions, his lead grew and never shrunk the rest of the way. No one will benefit from a break like that this time, as everyone is in the same boat for today.
Conditions will obviously be a big storyline through today, and through the rest of the week. Depending on how the fog behaves, the PGA Championship 2010 leaderboard might not have many scores in the red today. Whistling Straits was already expected to be difficult, yet players will know soon enough whether it just got even tougher.
The PGA Championship 2010 is now finally underway, nonetheless, with TNT set to show live coverage of the players and fog at 1 p.m. est.
