I have always been a fan of Paula Deen. Her lovely Southern charm and appealing but easy to follow recipes have inspired me to cook several dishes that I otherwise may not have tried, and also to purchase a set of her cookware. When I was recently called upon to make cookies for my younger daughter’s Girl Scout troop, I decided to give her Paula Deen Homestyle Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix a try. This food review will tell you all you need to know about this boxed treat.
I found Paula Deen Homestyle Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix at Walgreens for only &1.99 a box. The seventeen point five ounce box suggests that you will get about eighteen cookies from this mix depending on how large you shape your cookies. I tend to shape my cookies a bit on the smaller side, so my cookie count was more than twenty.
Preparation of Paula Deen Homestyle Double Chocolate Chip Cookies were a snap and will surely be quite simple for even the most novice of bakers. After preheating the oven to three hundred and seventy five degrees I mixed the entire box of dry mix with one whole egg and three fourths of a stick of room temperature butter. Using a regular table fork, this was accomplished quite easily. I then formed small balls of the cookie dough on two ungreased cookie sheets approximately two inches apart and slid them both into the oven.
After baking for ten minutes I removed the trays from the oven and let the cookies cool on cookie racks. The box recommends that for larger cookies a more appropriate baking time would be eleven to thirteen minutes. Unless you are making super sized cookies or your oven runs very hot, I would still suggest checking the cookies at ten minutes.
According to the nutritional information printed on the side of the box, each three tablespoon serving of Paula Deen Homestyle Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix contains one hundred and twenty calories with forty calories from Fat. There is four point five grams of Total Fat, zero percent of the daily recommended value of Cholesterol, one hundred and twenty five milligrams of Sodium, one gram of Dietary Fiber and eleven grams of Sugar. There is also two percent of Vitamin A and four percent of Iron.
Overall I feel that Paula Deen has another winning product with her Homestyle Double Chocolate Chip Cooke Mix. Each and every cookie came out of the oven deliciously baked chock full of chocolate chips. The cookies were exactly how I like them, crisp on the bottom and wonderfully chewy in the center. They rose beautifully in the oven and not only tasted wonderful, they presented beautifully on my seasonal platter.
Although Paula Deen Homestyle Double Chocolate Chip Cookies need no additional flavors, these cookies can be easily dressed up with pecans, walnuts or M & M’s. I definitely rate this product five out five stars and can’t wait for an excuse to bake them again!
