Would you like your Friday or Saturday night to be an entertaining spectacle? If you are up for a night of burgers, hot wings, and beer, consider Patriots Cafe in Fairfax, Virginia. Located in a dilapidated shopping mall, this establishment has been popular since the day it opened over fifteen years ago. In fact, its one of the most popular bars in the region, even though its not the largest, due to the fact that the service and prices are excellent. Its a really neighborhood bar, with a lot of “regular locals,” and if you are into sports be sure to enjoy their big screen televisions. Its a relatively safe place to go, without a lot of fighting that seems to be at bars in the area, and all age groups are represented. Also, some Friday and Saturday nights are amusing, as there’s always that “one drunk” that just makes going there a funny experience.
Patriots Cafe is a bar, but it also has a decent sized dining area. This is where you can go during the day with your family, and they have a pretty good menu. It is nothing fancy, but you will get value for your hard earned money, and the service is impeccable. I’ve had the pleasure of eating everything from one of their chicken Caesar salads, to their gigantic cheeseburgers, and have found them to be delicious. You can expect to pay between $6.00-$12.00 for most entrees, that are often served with french fries and the choice of a vegetable. If you are not into beer or booze, go with their ice teas, sodas, or water to complement your meal.
The seating area in the dining room is very comfortable. They have some of the best booths, with supportive seating, and a lot of legroom. This was a worthwhile investment on their part, because it makes eating here that much more pleasing than a lot of expensive restaurants in the area. The staff is very attentive. You are instantly greeted at the door, made to feel completely welcome, and are always seated in under a minute. The most time I’ve ever waited for a server was five minutes, and that was due to it being a busy day, but on most occasions they are right with you to take your drink and/or food orders. There’s a large television in the front to watch sporting events, and plenty of room on the table for your pitchers of beer, or side dishes of hot wings. Their buffalo wings are truly hot, and while I do love them, be sure to have a cool beverage ready to cool you down.
Going at night is a completely different experience. Its a combination of “Cheers” meets the “College Crowd.” You will see people in their early 20’s to 60’s, and this actually makes it more fun than a lot of bars. Most of the folks I’ve met have been incredibly friendly, and while most discussions involve sporting events, there have actually been some intellectually stimulating conversations about politics and life in general. A lot of regulars are well known here, and the bar staff gets to know you quite quickly. If you have a particular favorite drink, they always seem to remember, even if its been several weeks. That takes a level of talent, or either I’m a raging alcoholic, but I do appreciate that skill of theirs.
You aren’t going to see fights at Patriots Cafe. That is a good thing, unless you want to go to a bar out of that Roadhouse movie.I don’t mind waking up with a headache from drinking, but would prefer not to obtain one from Big Bad John’s right fist. There is a security presence on hand, and the bouncers are actually very friendly, and have been willing to assist someone who’s drunk in getting a safe ride home. This isn’t to say that this place is boring. There have been some folks who’ve gotten so liquored up, that they are entertaining from being so sloshed, or saying ridiculous things at one o’clock in the morning. That’s what makes Patriots Cafe so special, is that there’s a lot of variety, and its located at 10376 Fairfax Boulevard Fairfax, VA 22030. Give it a try and see for yourself, because you might just end up being a regular patron.
