Papillion, Nebraska’s Guide to Living

by itchy fish

Papillion, Nebraska ranked number 3 in the best places to live in the United States; and for good reason. It has a low crime rate, great restaurants, unparallel shopping, awesome schools, and there are so many fun things to do throughout the entire year.

Here is an overview of what Papillion has to offer.

Shopping- “Shadow Lake Towne Center” is located at 7775 Olson Drive just off highway 370 and is home to a plethora of shops. Visitors can grab a bite to eat in one of their many restaurants such as “Buffalo Wild Wings,” they can grab a cup of coffee inside “Border’s Book Store,” they can update their apparel by shopping at “Lane Bryant,” ” New York & Company,” or “Old Navy,” or they can get pampered at “Sweet & Sassy.”

In addition “Shadow Lake Towne Center” hosts a variety of activities and events throughout the year such as a concert series and a great nutrition class for the kids. “Shadow Lake Towne Center” is definitely the place to be when looking for great entertainment. Grocers-“Hy-Vee Supermarket” is the only grocer in Papillion but with all they have to offer there isn’t any reason to go elsewhere. “Hy-Vee” is also located in the “Shadow Lake Towne Center” and is a well organized and clean store with super friendly employees. In addition to the groceries “Hy-Vee” has a bank and a “Starbucks” located inside.

Medical Care-Emergencies happen and kids get sick so having a hospital nearby is important. “Midland’s Hospital” is located at 11111 South 84th Street. This is a full service hospital that is very clean, convenient, and has an outstanding group of medical professionals. Additionally, “Alegent Health” has a facility inside of “Hy-Vee Supermarket” located in the “Shadow Lake Towne Center.”

Recreation- Being outdoors makes the mind and body feel great and there are places in Papillion that gives locals and visitors plenty of opportunities to enjoy being outside. “Papillion City Park” is located in downtown Papillion across the street from “Dairy Queen” by “Papillion Jr. High School.” This park is equipped with playground equipment and a farmer’s market takes place throughout the summer. Secondly, the “Sumtur Amphitheater” is located off highway 370 just behind “Papillion South High school.” This is a great place to visit because it hosts a summer concert and movie series which is free to the public. Finally, “Walnut Creek Recreation Area” is just off highway 370 and 96th street. Here you’ll find a good size lake stocked with fish, a playground, picnic areas, and bike paths. This is an awesome area to spend time with family and friends.

Safety and Community- Papillion ranked 2.0 on the national crime index which is another reason why it is one of the best places to live. Because of its small size; neighborhoods in Papillion are quiet, family oriented, and friendly. The community is more like family instead of a bunch of people just living in the same area.

Schools- Although there may be only a handful of schools in the Papillion area they are wonderful. The “Papillion-La Vista School District” just became accredited and is now one of the 546 school districts within the United States to hold this title. Teachers are awesome, extracurricular activities are wonderful, and children continue to thrive. Papillion schools aren’t crammed with students as other large city schools are so teachers can work on a more individual basis with children if necessary.

There is so much more to be said about the great city of Papillion and although a small town isn’t for everyone it is a great place to live.
