After a one-off deal in 2008 and no shows at all in 2009, Ozzy Osbourne got the crazy train back on the tracks and Ozzfest 2010 is headed our way this summer. Ozzfest 2010 will hit six U. S. cities this year, beginning in San Bernardino, California, the site of the very first Ozzfest show back in 1996, on August 14. And Ozzfest 2010 will be a quasi-two-for-one-fest as the stars of Cruefest, Motley Crue, co-headline with the legendary Ozzy Osbourne.
Ozzfest 2010 will support the release of Ozzy’s 10th solo studio album, “Scream,” which will be released in June. He will hit the road with a new guitarist, the phenomenal Gus G. (Firewind), who replaces the also phenomenal Zakk Wylde; a new keyboardist, Adam Wakeman (son of the legendary Rick Wakeman of Yes fame); and a new drummer, Tommy Clufetos (Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper). The only returning member of the band that appeared on his last album, “Black Rain,” will be bassist Rob “Blasko” Nicholson (Rob Zombie). The first single from the album, “Let Me Hear You Scream”
The line-up for Ozzfest 2010 was announced Friday. The tour will be comprised of twelve artists appearing on two stages. Appearing on the Main Stage will be, of course, the headliners. Joining Motley Crue and Ozzy Osbourne will be Halford, the group fronted by Rob Halford of Judas Priest. Halford will perform original material, plus classic favorites of Judas Priest and Fight. Devildriver and Nonpoint, who gained considerable radioplay with their cover of Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight”) fill out the rest of the Main Stage bill.
The Second Stage’s line-up boasts seven acts, most notable among them Drowning Pool (who just released their fourth — and self-titled — album but probably best known for their song, “Bodies”) and Black Label Society (fronted by Ozzy Osbourne’s long-time guitarist Zakk Wylde). They will be joined by Kataklysm, Kingdom of Sorrow, Skeletonwitch, Saviours, and Goatwhore.
Ozzfest 2010’s line-up revelation came just two days after Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy’s wife and manager, announced that an Ozzy Osbourne biopic was in the works. According to NME, Sharon Osbourne said that a major announcement would take place concerning the film in a few weeks, but the project had launched. As of the announcement, an actor had not been cast for the role of Ozzy but those in the know were looking for an unknown to play the rock legend.
In a related matter, a biopic of co-headliner Motley Crue, based on the bestselling expository The Dirt, has been debated as well.
Ozzfest didn’t take place in 2009 because Ozzy Osbourne said he didn’t want to do live shows without a new album. In 2008, Ozzfest appeared in only one city, Dallas, where Ozzy was joined by Metallica and Serj Tankian (System of a Down).
