Yesterday morning I was thrilled to see that I had reached just a little over 500 page views and at the same time I thought, wow, there are still 1500 page views to go till I reach my goal of 2000 by June 30th. Is that even manageable? Absolutely! Do I have doubts that I will reach my goal? Definitely! But I think that is healthy, because it is enough doubt to keep me alert and on my toes. Feeling a little under pressure will keep me writing, reading and thinking every day.
Since I joined Associated Content on March 10th, I have published eight articles and my goal so far has been to publish one article a week, so I am pretty much on track when it comes to my goal. I love writing and want writing to be fun and trying to cram too much into an already busy schedule could make me panic a bit or totally make me lose interest in writing. In the beginning I have written about things that I really care about and feel that others might enjoy reading or may learn something from. I do think that I can up my goal for the month of May and publish twice a week.
To keep me writing every day I have used a few tools that have been recommended by other writers here on Associated Content. For example my team member from the current page view races, Jillian McCoy, mentions in her article “Writing Topics – How to Keep a List of Topics” the importance of keeping a running list of topics and ideas. Her idea is great and it has been a very useful tool for me. Another idea that Jillian came up with in her article “Save Documents Online with Google Docs” is to save your writing documents to Google docs and then have them handy anytime you are on a computer with web access. I find myself using this tool all the time now and I have access to write on my breaks at work or anytime I feel like it.
The other thing that has been a fun and helpful little tool is an application called “Streaks “, which I have downloaded to my iTouch. It is actually just a calendar that helps you track of a certain goal. For each day that you do something toward your goal, you put an X on the calendar and the application then keeps track of how long you can keep a streak going. You can have a calendar going for each goal, which makes it easy for you if you are working on more than one goal at the time. One of my goals right now is to write every day and keep the writing streak going for as long as possible.
And then there are all you people out there who are reading my articles, which is one of my main reasons for writing at all. My main goal is still to be able to touch lives with whatever I do every day. If I can make a difference in just one person’s life on any given day, I have come a long way in reaching my goal. So thank you for reading.
