Once there was a little boy. His name was Oliver. He lived in a house inside a small neighborhood with his mom, his dad, and his cat George.
Everyday Oliver looked forward to seeing George. He would spend hours at a time playing with him.
Some days they would have fun outside. Oliver would show him his favorite plants that his mom had in her garden. George’s favorite was the catnip that Oliver’s mom had grown especially for him.
Other days Oliver would throw a ball of yarn to him. George loved his yarn. Oliver could not help but laugh at George’s enjoyment while he was playing with that colorful ball of yarn that his dad had bought only a few months ago.
Oliver would even make up stories to tell George. He was a good listener, too. Every once in a while, though, he would fall asleep in the middle of some of Oliver’s stories.
Oliver spent so much time with George. He would almost always help his mom feed him. He would help keep George clean and healthy as well.
Every morning Oliver would wake up to George patiently waiting in his room.
One day Oliver woke up to find that George was not in his room. He wondered where he had gone.
He got out of bed quickly and searched for his mom. She was in the kitchen.
“Mom,” said Oliver.
“Yes, Oliver,” replied his mom.
“Did you see George?” asked Oliver.
“He’s probably in your room, dear,” said his mom.
“He wasn’t there,” replied Oliver.
“Let’s check again, honey,” said his mom. “I’m sure he didn’t run away. George loves you, Oliver.”
She grabbed his hand and led him back to his room. They stopped at the doorway.
“I still don’t see him,” said Oliver.
“Look under your desk, dear.”
Oliver looked under his small desk.
“He’s not here,” said Oliver.
“Did you check under your bed?”
Oliver looked under his bed. It looked dark.
“I can’t see anything,” said Oliver.
“Let’s use a flashlight then,” replied his mom.
“Okay,” replied Oliver.
He then got up and opened his closet door. He was about to grab his flashlight when he saw something unusual at the floor of his closet. It had two eyes staring straight at him.
“George!” cried Oliver happily.
He picked up George and put him on the floor. He then closed the closet door in delight.
“He was here the whole time!” said Oliver excitedly. “Thanks, mom!”
Oliver was reunited with George once again.
