If you are like me, which I hope there are few people since I am not that ludicrous, then you probably think that Kellogg’s Nutrigrain Bars are non-threatening super sweet bars of goodness. They go well with a cup of coffee, they are easy to take snatch in the morning, and they even have a non-threatening box for something that appears to be healthy. Often enough the packaging for healthy products is made so sparse and earth friendly that the fear you are about to consume a nice wad of pure dirt is actually a concern. Kellogg’s Nutrigrain Bars are appealing, cheap, and without major risk to the consumer ego. However, in the one Nutrigrain Bar your are about to consume your also consuming half the sugar in one can of soda, and literally almost giving your body a minus amount of fiber per calorie intake.
Take for example Kellogg’s Blackberry Nutrigrain Bar which according to Kellogg’s website contains 130 calories well offering 2 grams of dietary fiber. You are literally eating a minus amount of dietary fiber for the large amount of calories you are consuming. Next problem is the sugar that I earlier compared to a half can of soda. This is no healthy natural sugar derived from the heavens of fruit or milk. This is artificial cyborg sugar in the form of High Fructose Corn Syrup which is a dark sugary counterpart and byproduct of corn. High Fructose Corn Syrup is bad, very bad. Massive consumptions of this genetically engineered sugar monster have been linked to diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. It is a shadowy ingredient in the American Diet then will be confronted in the years ahead as obesity skyrockets. Instead of consuming Kellogg’s Nutrigrain bars which you must realize taste too good to be healthy, go with a more natural and less sugary option.
There are many other products around the aisle that do not taste as good, but will sustain your dietary fiber and caloric intake much better. Kashi is a particular favorite of mine, even if it still tastes faintly of pure earth the portions are small and easy to get through. The rewards are excellent if you can chew your way though one. A breakfast bar is an excellent in tool in losing weight because it gives you an chance to eat breakfast still considered the most important meal of the day. In conclusion don’t be tricked, shop smart, and if it that breakfast bar tastes too good to be true it probably is.
