No Big Shocks from BioShock Infinite

by itchyfish

There are tons of BioShock fans so now that BioShock Infinite is coming out there are going to be plenty of gamers who will be playing the new BioShcok Infinite game. The game will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3, and the PC. The game is not a direct sequel, it is a new story in a new land but much of the gameplay should be similar for fans of the series.

While BioShock Infinite will mostly appeal to fans of the BioShock series it is very possible that the game will be able to bring in younger gamers who never played the series of games before. BioShock Infinite is keeping the unique gameplay of being a Shooter and also having RPG elements. Because it is a unique hybrid of Shooter and RPG the game may be able to bring in new players to the series. Fans of Steampunk may also be inclined to come over into the fold because the game takes place in Columbia a floating city of 1912 with a steampunk look.

Fans of the series will see some similarities in the BioShock Infinite game. One example where fans will recall similar gameplay in the series of games is as you progress you get a second character and this second character Elizabeth has powers which she does not like to use and using the powers has similar effect on her as in the previous game when you kill or save a little sister.

While set in a different time and place make BioShock Infinite different from the other games in the series there are still similarities that fans of the series will appreciate. The game is a smart game with allusions to historical events and even subtly and intelligently makes fun of the past, in BioShock Infinite American exceptionalism is what is being mocked. We can expect we will see many funny in game jokes from this game.

The graphics that have been shown are amazing. While it is hard to have bad graphics in modern games it is hard to stand out but because of the theme and location BioShock Infinite is able to do that. The music also does a pretty good job of standing out though is not as impressive and is not along the lines of a Final Fantasy game.

The storyline seems to be well developed and bringing in stuff from many sources. BioShock Infinite main character is a former Pimperton Detective Agency agent and Elizabeth is linked with the Columbia city. Columbia is very similar to Rapture from the earlier games of the series and it appears it may be a theocratic government. Nazisim, and American exceptionalism even play a role in the storyline.

BioShock Infinite looks like it is going to be a good game for both BioShock fans as well as fans of the Shooter and RPG genre. BioShock Infinite looks like it will be a very good game and live up to its predecessors. Fans of the series should not be disappointed with the latest game to the franchise.
