Beat City for the Nintendo DS is a fun and enjoyable experience that will surely put a smile on your face, but is that enough of an incentive to make it your next purchase?
As it starts, you are a individual with what looks like a speak for a head. Throwing the rest of the silly parts aside, you are on a quest to bring color and life back to your city! How do you do that, you say? It’s simple, make and create music through the aid of mini games that force music back to the world!!
If you’ve played games like Elite Beat Agents or Rhythm Heaven, then you’ll definitely love this game. Similar to those before, this game focuses on music and timing. Since this game is on the DS, you can imagine that you would be using the stylus to make most of the fun. You are right, the stylus is used for each and every action as you tap your objectives away to the sounds and music of the world! It’s very fun and addicting. You go stage by stage listening and watching. There are many different stages that require you make use of your ears and vision to tap with pin point precision. There will be a lot of trial and error for those tone deaf folk out there.
I have to make this a 5/5 because I adore the design so much. It it looks an old video game with its almost pixel feeling. The animations are smooth and the town looks very alive with colorful characters and environments.
The thing that makes up a music rhythm game! The sounds are the most important factor and if it sucks then you have a bomb. Luckily for us, this game delivers in that department with various sounds and music tracks. As soon as you start the game you we are treated to a sample of what the game has to offer. Upbeat and fun tunes that will get your blood boiling. Does this feeling keep up throughout the game? Most of the time yes, there are many stages with blips and bleeps that coordinate very nicely. The many different tracks and sound effects will have you itching to go for a second play through
There are lots of stages that will make you want to play over again to get a high score. Other than that, there’s not much else to do than unlock the higher difficulties and play the same stages over again. It can get a bit tedious but you’ll appreciate the work the developers have put into the creativity of the game and that might make you want to sift through it all.
Beat City is a great title for the DS. It brings out the best of what the Ninendo DS has to offer by utilizing the stylus in a fun and addictive way. The game comes with a great upbeat atmosphere and easy on the ears music. A good game to play in short intervals, you won’t get bored too easy and it’s a recommended game to rent or buy for your children.
