Nightlife in New Buffalo, Michigan

by itchyfish

New Buffalo, Michigan, is known for its yacht filled marinas, bustling harbors, boundless lake views and sandy beaches. But, at the end of the day, if it’s a cool refreshing nightcap you desire, the local hotels and eateries offer a splendorous array of Michigan wines, micro-brewed beers and tropical libations. Here are a few tips on how to embrace New Buffalo’s nightlife.

The Terrace Room Wine Bar and Lounge

Located in the lakefront Harbor Grand Hotel, the Terrace Room is a lovely bistro with an outdoor patio boasting beautiful views of the harbor. The Terrace Room features approximately thirty wines, showcasing brands from local vineyards like the Round Barn Winery in nearby Union Pier. The Terrace also serves an assortment of micro-brewed beers. And in the cooler months, an outdoor fire pit keeps your toes toasty while sipping on warm liquors.

The Marina Grand Resort

A sister hotel to the Harbor Grand, the Marina Grand offers several nightcap options like their seasonal rooftop deck. Guests can enjoy weekend cocktails atop the resort while viewing Lake Michigan’s spectacular sunsets. Or stop in at the lakefront Bentwood Tavern for their fun and fruity line of Mixology beverages which includes martinis, blueberry cosmos and lemon drops. My personal favorite: the Key Lime Pie drink made with vanilla vodka and lime juice and then served in a graham cracker crumb rimmed glass. Most of the above drinks go great with the Bentwood’s delectable sushi!

The Stray Dog Bar and Grill

The Stray Dog presents a sizable wraparound bar, a window lined patio with a fireplace and an outdoor rooftop deck with glorious lake and harbor views. Their drink menu advertises beers, wines and tropical libations and the brick oven pizza makes for a tasty sidekick.

Casey’s Bar and Grill

Located on the main strip, Casey’s is a popular happy hour gathering place for locals and tourists alike. An extensive wine list draws patrons to Casey’s bar or backyard cocktail garden. And their zesty chili goes great with a cold brew!

Jimmy’s Bar and Grill

Once inside, you would never feel as though you were in a strip mall. But that is the case at Jimmy’s, where customers are mesmerized by star splattered walls, a soothing waterfall, a substantial food and drink menu and out of tune Karaoke.

On your next trip to New Buffalo, Michigan, if you prefer to have your nightcap back at the hotel, consider purchasing a few bottles of locally produced wines at the town grocer, pharmacy or the above mentioned Round Barn Winery tasting room in Union Pier.
