Beginning his career at the tight end position, Zach Miller cut his teeth in prep football in the heat of the Arizona Desert. Miller was a star tight end at Desert Vista High in Phoenix. Miller amassed every possible award for a high school player, including the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year. Miller was also unanimously ranked the number one tight end in the nation. Miller was highly recruited out of high school but opted for his home town college, Arizona State University.

Zach Miller’s arrival on campus at Arizona State University was met with high expectations. Miller pulled in 56 balls for the most receptions ever by a freshman at ASU. Over Miller’s career he was feared by PAC 10 linebackers for his size and his ability to run through tackles from the time he was a freshman.
Miller ended his college football career with 144 catches and 1,512 yards receiving, to go with his 14 touchdowns. Miller’s tenacious running style after the catch and his uncanny knack for getting to the ball and locking it up, caught the eye of many NFL scouts. Rookies normally have a tough time making it onto the field with the Oakland Raiders. Zach Miller started all 16 NFL games for the Oakland Raiders and had 444 yards received in his rookie season. Miller set a rookie record also with 44 receptions.
Miller had a great game in JaMarcus Russell’s first game as an NFL starting quarterback. Miller racked up 84 yards receiving on eight passes for his best game of his rookie season. Miller was a solid tight end in his rookie season, that was not afraid of blocked when called upon. Zach Miller Leads All Receivers on Oakland Raiders with 56 Receptions
It may be an indictment on the Oakland Raiders offense that a tight end was the leading receiver. Miller led the Raiders with 778 yards receiving and 56 catches in 16 games. Miller’s best game of his sophomore season came against division rival, the San Diego Chargers. Miller scored the longest touchdown of his NFL career in the game, a 63 yard romp and ended the game with 95 yards receiving.
The 2010 NFL season for the Oakland Raiders and Zach Miller looks bright. Miller will still be a key target for new quarterback Jason Campbell and it is possible he could end up with several 100 yard receiving games before the season ends.
