Never Can Say Goodbye, Michael

by itchyfish

June 25, 2010 makes a year since the death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. His death came just as he began working on a series of shows dubbed: “This Is It.” These shows were to jump-start his dwindling career and ease some of the financial sorrows he allegedly faced. Unfortunately he never got a chance to prove to the world that he was still the King of Pop, that he still had it in him to be the best as he had proven before with hits.

On the day of June 25th, people were waking up to the news that Farrah Fawcett had lost her battle with cancer, later that same day the world lost another iconic figure and it caught many off guard. First it was reported that Jackson had gone into cardiac arrest. This wasn’t the first time that the singer had health issues in previous years, during the child molestation trial and the years after he dealt with health concerns. No one could have imagined that Jermaine Jackson would appear just a few hours after the 9-1-1 phone call was made; telling the world that his brother had died saying: ” My brother the legendary King of Pop Michael Jackson passed away Thursday June 25, 2009 at 2:26pm (PDT) it is believed he suffered cardiac arrest in his home.” What happened after that was weeks of media coverage as they tried to find out all the details of Jackson’s estate, what would happen to the children, and the massive world mourning of the beloved King of Pop. By August 2009 evidence from Jackson’s autopsy proved that Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray had been giving the star propofol, a type of anesthetic to help the singer with insomnia, and according to VH1.com investigators ruled his death as a homicide.

When Jackson died a year ago many wanted to know what would happen to his children, Prince Michael 13, Paris Katherine 12, and Prince Michael II 8, also known as Blanket. At the end of the memorial for the fallen star, which was basically the first appearance of the children without the masks their father liked them to wear, Paris gave a heart felt message to her father’s fans and the world saying: “Ever since I was born daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine and I just wanted to say I love him so much.” Her words brought many to tears as she collapsed into her Aunt Janet’s arm. It was reported by MSNBC in October 2009, that the time after their father’s death had been tough, as it would be for any child who loses a parent. Latoya Jackson explained to the “Daily Mirror” that Paris was able to talk about her father and thinking about him. She said that Prince didn’t want to talk about him, and that he couldn’t even watch his father, stating: “It’s too soon, too touching. I do worry about him very much.” Blanket was also very emotional about it and Latoya stated that at the time he would cry over the loss, but Prince Michael was able to be much like his father pushing his feelings aside and being very grown up on stage during the Grammy’s accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award for his father saying: “Our father was always concerned about the planet and humanity, through his hard work and dedication he has helped though many charities and donated to all of them. Though his songs his message was simple: Love. We will continue to spread his message and help the world.” Now the kids will get ready to start school for coming school year. Katherine Jackson, Jackson’s mother who has been the guardian of the children since their father’s death, announced that the children would attend school. They had been taught through home school private lessons up to this point. It was said that the kids are ready to start school.

The Kid’s won’t have to worry about much since Jackson’s estate has made so much money after his death. According to Bbc.com, Billboard Magazine estimated that since his death the Jackson’s estate has made over $1 billion. Money has come in from the movie “This Is It”, publishing rights, licensing and touring. There is a new contract that was estimated at $31 million. Bbc.com also reported: “The Sony Music Entertainment deal will see 10 albums of the late singer’s music released over the next seven years, including one of previously unreleased material.

The estate is guaranteed between $200m and $250m for the deal but Billboard believes approximately $31m of this will have been paid in the last 12 months.”

During the weekend of the anniversary of his death aside from watching music channels such as MTV, VH1, BET, and Fuse that will be showing different specials in tribute to the King of Pop, fans want to know what will be the fate of Dr. Conrad Murray. As mentioned before Jackson’s death had been listed as a homicide. In February 8, according to VH1.com Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter. He plead not guilty. He has since been practicing medicine having been able to keep his license in California even after an attempt to remove that license June 14. Joe Jackson the late pop star’s father has filed a lawsuit against Murray. Dr. Conrad is facing up to four years in prison. The Preliminary hearing is set for August 23, 2010.

Son, Brother, Father, Singer, Dancer, Iconic Figurehead, Idolized Pop Star; which ever role he played in our lives as any other loved one Michael Jackson is still loved and missed by family who literally knew him, who at dinner with him back in Gary, Indiana and by fans who knew him only through his music and music videos. With a life that had been followed with tragedy and drama starting as a young boy forced to sort of grow up quickly to become business minded to accusations of child molestation only to be acquitted of all charges, Jackson has been remembered during the year after his passing, for the music, dancing, and mind blowing entertainment that has influenced so many after him and continues to enlighten those who will never get the chance to see him as the world did during the 50 years of his life. According to ABCnews.com when stars reacted to Jackson’s death Sophia Loren, who was friends with Jackson said: “There will never be another Michael Jackson…I am devastated. The world has lost an Icon, with his songs he gave the world a treasure. I hope he finds the peace he needs after so much suffering.”

A year later her comment still holds true, and will do so in the years to come.
