The show starts with Sunshine reflecting on her father ONeal being sent home last week. She feels like “he fell on his sword for me” and of course takes this as motivation to continue on without him.
It is Make Over Week! Biggest Loser fans and contestants alike look forward to this week. I don’t know about you, but I am so happy to see the scruffy men shave and finally get a haircut. They always look so much more handsome with their new looks!
New Hair Styles
Jonathan Antin, star of the realty show “Blow Out” and new judge on “Shear Genius” Season 3, styled everyone’s hair. Jonathan teased Michael about how much weight he would lose by getting a haircut. Darius was informed that his curly hair was long enough to donate to Locks of Love.
Of course, the contestants had to adjust to shopping with their new bodies. Darius remarked that he never shopped for clothes before. He always bought them at the tractor store where his clothes were next to the tarps. Sunshine tried on a size 12 and discovered that it was too big. The store didn’t even have clothes small enough for her!
After all of the makeovers, the contestants went into a small room with mirrors on all sides. They checked themselves out from all angles and reflected on how much their bodies have changed. Two family members were hiding behind a one-way mirror to surprise their loved one. Ashley’s sister remarked at how she actually has collarbones now. Darius is now in a size 34. Michael’s 20-year-old sister told Michael that she wanted to learn what he is doing so she can lose weight, too. The families were so supportive and proud.
As a special surprise Ashanti performs a small, private concert. She applauds the finalists and offers them encouragement. “Remember to always shine,” she advises them. Ashanti sings as we see clips of how far everyone has come.
This week’s fitness challenge seemed especially challenging. Who could last the longest on the “Jacob’s Ladder of Hell” (as Ashley put it) without falling off into the pool below? First one off gets a one-pound disadvantage and last one remaining gets a one-pound advantage. Ashley fell off after 3 minutes. Then Michael was out at 5 minutes. Sunshine held her own, but eventually fell off at 45 minutes. Sam felt he really needed the advantage and that Koli would fall off for him. So together they would need to beat Darius. Sam fell off at 55 minutes and placed third. Darius and Koli were in it for the long haul. They chatted and joked with each other. After two and a half hours Darius decided to give up and fell into the pool. Final results: Koli one pound advantage and Ashley one pound disadvantage.
Last Chance Workout
Darius really processed why he just gave up during the challenge. He said that he could have gone on all night and he wasn’t that tired. So, why did he give up? Bob really pushed him in the workout and even remarked that they were working out so hard that Bob and Jillian couldn’t even do these workouts. It is amazing what these contestants accomplish in 16 weeks! While running on the treadmill, Darius completely fell off the back and landed really hard. He quickly got up and got right back on the treadmill continuing his sprint as if nothing had happened. Darius proved to himself that he is not a quitter and he will finish strong!
First up is Koli. He talked about really wanting to hit a 10-pound loss and he would be disappointed if he only got 9. Even without the 1 pound advantage, Koli lost 15 pounds for a total 6.18%.
Next is Michael, who is just 17 pounds away from losing 200 pounds on the ranch. He has a 9-pound loss and hopes that it will be enough to keep him at the ranch. His percentage is 2.62%.
Darius is anxious, but feeling motivated after the challenge. He lost 9 pounds which is 4.21% putting him in second place behind Koli. He isn’t sure if he is safe, but feels “great” about his loss.
Sunshine needs to lose more than 7 pounds to stay above the yellow line and she pulls a 9. Her percentage is 4.81% which places her in second and is safe from elimination. She dedicated her great loss to her dad. Darius and Michael are still at risk.
Sam is up next. He is nervous and needs to lose more than 10 pounds to stay safe. He lost 2 pounds for a 0.83%. Sam states that he did the best that he can. Bob and Jillian reinforce that he is the healthiest any contestant has ever left the ranch and is a wonderful role model. Sam is in last place and is below the yellow line. Darius is safe.
Ashley has a one-pound disadvantage and needs to lose 7 pounds to be safe. She lost 10 pounds and sets a record for the most weight any woman has ever lost on campus by losing 136 pounds. She has a 3.63% and is thrilled with herself. She feels that she has been underestimated and that she can win.
Sam and Michael are below the yellow line.
Sam talks about putting in the same amount of work since day one. However, he isn’t trying to be Biggest Loser because he is already so close to his goal. Michael talks about how much more he still has to lose. Last week he was five pounds less then when Darius started. He still has a lot of weight to lose, is still over 300 pounds, and wants to stay.
No big surprise that Koli voted for Michael. Sunshine decided to vote for Michael because he is a bigger threat to her. Ashley said she was putting friendships aside and voting for Sam because she needs a safety net if she falls below the yellow line. Before Darius reveals his vote, they show a flash from 10 minutes ago. Darius, Ashley, and Michael were meeting and looks as though they may have an alliance together. Darius voted for Sam.
This creates a tie. The person with the lowest percentage of weight loss goes home which is Sam. This is the last intact team and now one is going home. Sam offers a motivational speech to Koli. There are lots of tears and a heartfelt send off.
24 hours later, Sam is greeted by a huge party with his nieces, nephews, sister, and parents. His sister says it is, “like a burden has been lifted off of his shoulders.” Sam talks through his tears as he tells his family, “This is my moment. This is my potential I’ve lived up to!”
Sam started at 372 pounds and today he is 236 pounds. He has only lost 2 pounds since leaving the ranch because he is at his goal weight. He has lost a total of 136 pounds. Sam moved to Los Angeles to be closer to Stephanie, another Biggest Loser contestant. They started dating in week 3 and he is enjoying helping her get to her goal. Sam says that he loves life and he is truly happy.
Michael has a giant tempter tantrum in the gym and season 3 winner Eric comes back to the ranch despite having gained back weight.
