The NBA playoff schedule for 2010 has a Game 6 in Boston tonight. Days ago, the NBA playoff schedule wasn’t remotely expected to have that. The Celtics were supposed to be in the final by now, while the Lakers and Suns beat each other up. Instead, they have to try a second time to clinch a finals berth at home, and it’s their last chance to do so. Otherwise, the next chance they have to finish the Magic will be on the road, where they will not be favored anymore. So although the 2010 NBA playoff schedule says tonight is Game 6 between the Magic and Celtics, it feels more like a Game 7.
At the moment, the city of Boston fears they will be part of sports’ infamy once again. If both the Bruins and Celtics blow a 3-0 lead in the same summer, it will be a black mark that the city will never erase. But if the Magic finally fall apart, like they did in the first three games, it will be like the last two games never happened.
If the NBA playoff schedule finally ends for the Magic, their comeback will go from miraculous to useless. The fact that they did win the last two games only makes their collapse in Games 1, 2 and 3 even worse, and much more puzzling. As such, a loss tonight might be more disappointing than a sweep would have been.
For the Celtics, winning the Eastern Conference now would be more of a relief than a celebration. But stretching the 2010 NBA playoff schedule for the Eastern Conference finals could still cost them. Even if they win, they are much more banged up than they were a week ago. Now that they are not riding a hot streak, they might be in a worse position to beat the Lakers or Suns in the finals, if they get there.
Boston flipped the switch back on when the playoffs started, and now they have to do it again and keep it on this time. If not, the NBA playoff schedule will have its first Game 7 since the Bucks-Hawks in round one. But it would be a much bigger, and much more historic, Game 7 in Orlando.
Boston can instead restore order tonight, or join the 1951 Rochester Royals, 1994 Jazz and 2003 Mavericks as teams who lost three straight after going up 3-0. However, those three teams then won Game 7.
This season’s NBA playoff schedule can once again send the Celtics to the finals, or make even greater history. The most unlikely NBA Game 6 in some time starts at 8:30 pm est on ESPN.
