Darlington Raceway is one of NASCAR’s most historic venues and on this Saturday night the track known as the Lady in Black will take a few pounds of flesh from some of the best. Drivers that know how to conserve their car will perform the best at Darlington because tire wear is critical at this old track.
Darlington is one of the toughest tracks NASCAR visits but is fairly predictable when it comes to picking a winner. A driver that is smooth on the gas and can ease into the corner with as little brake as possible will do well at this track. This being said, this week will have some chalk (favorites) in the picks. The following odds were released by the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook Monday afternoon.
Jeff Gordon at 6-1 is the best bet to win the NASCAR Showtime Southern 500.
Four time NASCAR champ Jeff Gordon, has been on fire since the start of the season and he has just missed getting his first NASCAR Cup win of 2010 several times. Gordon has won at this track recently and he knows the tricks of the trade to get to the front and stay there. Gordon is good at saving his tires at Darlington and will be there at the end. Jeff Gordon is the best bet to win the NASCAR Showtime Southern 500 at 6-1.
Kurt Busch at 12-1 is the second choice to win the NASCAR Showtime Southern 500.
Kurt Busch just missed winning in one of the most amazing finishes in NASCAR in history craching across in second place to Rickey Craven. Busch is another driver that knows how to save tires at the abrasive Darlington Raceway and he will be in the mix as the race comes to a close. A good pit crew is essential for this race because it will be guaranteed to have a late race caution that will decide the race. Kurt Busch is good bet as the second choice at 12-1 to win the NASCAR Showtime Southern 500.
Greg Biffle at 20-1 is a good third choice to win the NASCAR Showtime Southern 500.
Greg Biffle is another veteran NASCAR Cup driver that knows how to get the most of his tires and be there at the end of a Darlington race. Biffle had back to back wins in 2005 and 2006 and has always been reliable at Darlington. Greg Biffle is a good coverage bet with a small wager at 20-1 to win the NASCAR Showtime Southern 500.
Martin Truex Jr at 40-1 is an excellent long shot pick to win the NASCAR Showtime Southern 500.
Martin Truex Jr has always been a smooth driver and has learned the Darlington track over his short NASCAR Cup career. Truex has been stout of late with the #56 Napa sponsored Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota. Look for Truex to have a shot at the end of this one and he is a legitimate contender to win the NASCAR Showtime Southern 500 at 40-1.
