by itchy fish

The 2010 NASCAR All Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway shapes up to be one of the most hotly contested NASCAR events of the season. 17 drivers are already automatically qualified for NASCAR’s premere event and two more drivers will be added on Saturday night.

Before the All Star Race, all drivers that have not one a NASCAR Sprint Cup race in the past year will be allowed one last chance to qualify. The race before the All Star Race is called the Showdown and is always a wild affair as NASCAR drivers desperately attempt to win the Showdown for themselves and their sponsors.

Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards are the favorites to win NASCAR Sprint Showdown.
The NASCAR Sprint Showdown has some tough competition and the Roush Racing drivers are at the head of this year’s class. Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards are the co-favorites to win the Showdown at 9-2 and the two Richard Childress Racing entries, Clint Bowyer and Jeff Burton are 5-1. The odds are provided by the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook.

Past winners that are racing in the NASCAR Sprint Showdown are AJ Allmendinger at 15-1, Martin Truex Jr at 10-1, Sam Hornish Jr at 15-1 and Jeff Burton at 5-1. Jeff Burton has the best chance to to capture his second NASCAR Sprint Showdown and the 5-1 price is workable.

Jeff Burton at 5-1 has chance to win the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Showdown.
Jeff Burton has been knocking on the door to the winner’s circle all year and his Richard Childress Racing Teammates have been on fire all season. For that reason, Clint Bowyer, also at 5-1 is not a bad back up bet in this race. Jeff Burton is the best bet to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Showdown.

Scott Speed at 25-1 can let it hang out in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Showdown.
The NASCAR Sprint Showdown is an excellent opportunity for Scott Speed to assert himself. Speed can put the hammer down and let it fly in this no points race and make a statement for the rest of the NASCAR season. Speed has show flashes of greatness this NASCAR season and with his teammate Brian Vickers laid up with complications from blood clots, Speed has extra help. Scott Speed at 25-1 is an excellent second choice and long shot bet to win the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Showdown.

Joe Gibbs Racing has figured out the new spoiler but Hendrick Motorsports isn’t far behind.
Don’t let Rick Hendrick fool you. Last week Hendrick was lamenting the demise of his team since the elimination of the rear wing, giving Joe Gibbs Racing credit for their work adapting so quickly to the new rear spoiler.

Joe Gibbs Racing has won the last five of six races with the new rear spoiler but Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon have been plagued with bad luck over the same month and a half. It is true that Dale Earnhardt Jr and Mark Martin have struggled but that has been a year long issue.

Joey Logano has a great chance to prove his worth in the NASCAR Sprint All Star Race.
With Joe Gibbs Racing so hot, Joey Logano deserves a look, as the teammate that can break into the winner circle in 2010. Logano has performed well this season and under the watchful eye of his two teammates, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin, this could be a great spot for Logano to gain confidence. Joey Logano at 25-1 is the best bet to win the 2010 NASCAR Sprint All Star Race.

Kurt Busch has had been close to an NASCAR All Star Race but never won.
Kurt Busch must feel Charlotte Motor Speedway owes him a win in the NASCAR All Star Race. He has had the car to beat on several occasions and his new Crew Chief, Steve Addington, has given Busch some strong equipment this year. If he has a good piece this weekend, he will be tough to beat. Kurt Busch at 12-1 is a great second choice and value pick to win the 2010 NASCAR Sprint All Star Race.

Denny Hamlin at 8-1 cannot be ignored in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint All Star Race.
With Denny Hamlin as hot as he has been since his ACL knee surgery, he cannot be ignored heading into the NASCAR Sprint All Star Race. Hamlin and teammate Kyle Busch, have run rough shod over the competition the last month and a half and can easily run away with this race in the last segment. Denny Hamlin at 8-1 is a great cover bet to win the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race.
