While Nintendo 64 was the best console, the games were pumped out like crazy for it. While I was far from able to play all of them I did manage to play most of the popular ones. I have managed to produced a top 5 even though there are many others that were worth of making the list.
1. Perfect Dark
Perfect Dark was one of those games that was talked about that much, but it was by far my favorite. The storyline of the game was in all honesty awful. That is not what this game was about though. The game was all about the multiplayer mode. Split screen first person shooter at its finest. Even more intriguing is that ability to add computer players to play against you. There was nothing more fun than having a bunch of computers out to kill you and your friends. The choice of weapons was also vast. You could set up the weapons to play with which included anything from normal pistols to alien laser guns. Double Cyclones was always one of my favorites.
2. Super Smash Brothers
A bit if a different killing game than Perfect Dark. Smash brothers allowed the players to choose from a variety of popular Nintendo characters to fight in battles of up to four players. Some characters proved to be more popular than others such as Fox or Link, but they all had their advantages. The single player mode is also fun and can be challenging in this game as well.
3. Mario Kart
What would a top 5 be without a popular Mario game. Mario Kart was a racing game that could keep you and your friends shooting shells at each other all day. It seems like the ability to compete with other players in a better graphic style is what kept games like this coming out and topping the sales list.
4. Mario Party
If one Mario game isn’t enough here is the next. Mario Party was another competitive multiplayer game. It was unique in its own way though. It was almost like a virtual board game except with mini-games. The mini-games were the best part by far. Some of my favorites included: Shy Guy Says, Face Lift, Mario Bandstand, and Crazy Cutters.
5. The Legend of Zelda: Orcarina of Time
I never played the game all they way through, but I know many people were hardcore fans of the Zelda games for Nintendo 64. The adventures became much more complex when Zelda went 3D. The battles became more tense and the story lines became much deeper. Zelda games will always have a spot in my top games list as well as most others.
