It is really no surprise that John Carter Cash has been in music since he was a small lad; his family was made up of country music giants. His grandmother was the famous Maybelle Carter. He is the only son of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. He preserves the family legacy and is caretaker to the heritage of his musical ancestors.
John’s greatest passion is working as a country music producer. He worked with his mother, June Carter Cash on her CD “Press On”, which won a Grammy in 1999. He went on to work as his father’s Grammy winning records, “American III”, “Solitary Man”, and “American IV”, and “The Man Comes Around”. The latter of these received three CMA awards.
John also produced his mother’s record “Wildwood Flower”, which won a Grammy for Best Traditional Folk album in 2003. John produced “Unbroken Circle: The Musical Heritage of the Carter Family”. This 2004 production received three Grammy nominations.
John Carter is also Co-Producer on the Marty Stuart CD, “Badlands”, “The Voice of the Spirit-the Gospel of the South”, from which he has received critical regard and acclaim. John Carter has produced material for some of the country music giants in Nashville.
The first CD of his own music titled “Bitter Harvest” was released only to the international market in 2003. John has an upcoming CD titled “The Family Secret”, scheduled to release in September of 2010.
John Carter is producer of Billy Joe Shaver’s “Everybody’s Brother”, released in 2007. This CD was nominated for a Grammy award.
The tribute CD “Anchored in Love” was produced by John for his mother. He is also the author of his mother’s biography, also titled “Anchored in Love”. John’s latest endeavor as an author is a Children’s book called “Momma Loves Her Little Son”. His newest released book was released in April of 2010, titled “Daddy Loves His Little Girl”. He is also working on his third book, called “The Cat in the Rhinestone Suit” is scheduled for release in 2011.
John portrayed the disk jockey Bob Neal in the film “Walk the Line”. His appearance didn’t show up on the screen version of the movie, but it can be found in the deleted scenes section on the extended DVD.
John owns and operates a country music recording studio near Nashville, Tennessee. He calls his company Cash Productions, LLC. He and his wife Laura Cash often perform and work in the studio. His wife Laura is an accomplished fiddle player and vocalist.
John Carter Cash is proof that the country music industry requires more than an artist on stage, with a back up band of great talent. The country music business (or any music business) is an assortment of other categories as well. John Carter Cash is a songwriter, poet, producer, singer, author, and business man. He has not only provided lyrics, but followed through with their production. He holds on to the fabulous legacy left to him by his country music parents. Living in Hendersonville, Tennessee, and working in Nashville, Tennessee, John has not ventured far from his roots. His passion is producing the country music he has come to respect and love, and giving all the country music fans the quality of music they love and deserve.
