The 25th annual Mud Volleyball Tournament to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio will be held on Saturday July 31, 2010. This day-long event, held at Beulah Park in Grove City, the largest fundraising event for the Epilepsy Foundation.
The Mud Volleyball Tournament is played in regulation Ohio mud. Differing from regular volleyball, Mud teams play with eight members and at least three must be women. Shoes are required and veterans of the Tournament will advise that Duct tape is the most effective way to keep your shoes where they belong, although welding has been attempted.
It’s not too late to register your team! Online registration is available via credit card or team captains can drop off their registration form and check at the Epilepsy Foundation’s offices at 17 South High Street, Suite 1000, Columbus. Team registration is $360 and official Mud Volleyball Tournament T-shirts are available for $10.
There are three pre-registration events scheduled to pick up materials prior to July 31. Teams unable to attend any of these events should pick up their packages at the Epilepsy Foundation offices between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. Packages may be picked up at the following locations from 5:30 until 7:30 PM:
Tuesday July 27: Brazenhead Irish Pub – 1027 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus (Grandview Heights)
Wednesday July 28: Flannagan’s, 6835 Caine Road, Columbus
Thursday July 29: Hooter’s, 5901 East Main Street, Columbus
Any charity event depends on volunteers. There are several opportunities to help with the Mud Volleyball Tournament – set-up, concessions, beer service, tickets, sign-up, parking and tear-down. All volunteers receive an Official Mud Volleyball Tournament T-shirt. Contact the Epilepsy Foundation at 614-358-0874 or 800-878-3226.
My choice of volunteer duties in the past has been to referee the tournament! Professional volleyball experience isn’t necessary and training is provided on-site the morning of the tournament. In addition to food and drink tickets, plenty of water and the official Tournament t-shirt, volunteer refs receive their very own WHISTLE!!! I treasure my collection of whistles as much as the mud-stained T-shirt from playing in the 13th tournament proclaiming “We’re Talkin’ Dirty!”
Parking at Beulah Park is $5 and spectator admission is $5 (children under 6 are admitted free). Shade is nearly non-existent, so don’t forget your sun block and perhaps a canopy to rest out of the sun along with lawn chairs. Carry-in food and drinks are not permitted and concessions are available.
Celebrate 25 years of fun in the mud at the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio’s Mud Volleyball Tournament!
