Heartbreak and disappointment were rampant in last night’s Teen Mom. Teen Mom airs on MTV on Tuesdays at 10/9pm Central. During the second episode of the second season, teen moms, Maci, Amber, Farrah, and Caitlin seemed to be dealing with more issues than ever. Whether it was issues with the baby’s father, relationship struggles, or family problems, Teen Mom covered it all.
In the first episode of the season, Maci struggled to make ends meet and receive child support from her Bentley’s father, Ryan. She brought Ryan to court and finally got what her and Bentley deserved (a little help).
In the second episode Maci tries to convince her parents that she and her friends should move into a house together (with the baby). It becomes clear after Bentley has many tantrums and runs wildly around the house that this is not a good idea. I understand Maci’s need for independence, but obviously having a baby makes “normal” not possible. Maci is one of the most mature girls on the series and seems to take this major disappointment with grace.
After being assaulted by mother (a situation for which her mother got arrested), Farrah decides she wants nothing more to do with her so-called family. She fears for the baby’s life, and she fears for her own. Her mother seems to be in denial of her inappropriate actions.
Farrah takes matters into her own hands and finds a new apartment for her and her baby, Sophia, to live in. I think that this is a smart move because Farrah’s mother clearly has control issues. The only thing that frightened me was when Farrah left her baby out in the hallway of the apartment complex while unpacking. Maybe neither Farrah nor her mom has those motherly instincts?
Amber deals with the possible split of her relationship with Gary. She wants to keep her family together, but Gary needs “Gary time.” Even though Amber can get truly crazy with her yelling fits and erratic behavior, my heart broke for her while she waited for Gary to choose between their family and the single life.
It is not clear that Gary and Amber’s relationship will last. They love their baby Leah, but their constant fighting might get in the way for good at some point.
Caught in a tough spot, Catelynn reveals that she lived in Florida briefly during her and Tyler’s relationship and dated another guy. This becomes a huge problem between her fiancé Tyler and her in this episode. Tyler feels hurt that she lied to him time and time again. He even considers breaking off the engagement.
This was one of the most emotional Teen Mom episodes, because the rift in Catelynn and Tyler’s relationship seems to be setting in. After giving up their child for adoption, everyone seemed to be rooting for Catelynn and Tyler. So let’s hope that they can get through this!
One important thing that we must not forget when watching Teen Mom is that they are still young and maturing. Sometimes having a baby makes a person grow up faster; sometimes a period of rebellion sets in. Only time will tell.
