MTV presented a rather emotional Teen Mom on Tuesday night. This is the first time that I have ever truly felt for or been annoyed by the teen moms so deeply. New and old relationships clashed, family struggles were endured, and proposals were made. No one ever said being a teen mom would be easy, but the girls on MTV’s show probably never thought it would be this hard.
In this episode, Maci struggles to get to know her ex, Ryan’s, new girlfriend. Maci expresses that she would feel better about Bentley’s interactions with his new girlfriend if she knew her better, but Ryan always manages to avoid introductions. Eventually Catherine, the new girlfriend is able to get a word in and establish herself. Lucky for Maci, Catherine may be more mature than Ryan and good for Bentley.
The camera also captures Maci exploring new relationship options with an old friend named Kyle. The previous episode shows Maci and Kyle reuniting and realizing how much they missed each other. Will there still be a spark between her and Kyle with a child around? That is the big questions we are waiting to answer.
Farrah is still refusing to get along with her mother after the domestic violence incident. They meet at a library and her mom tries to talk to her and tell her how much they love her by reading a passage from Farrah’s baby book. This teen mom is not having it, though. She makes it clear once again that she is not interested in a relationship with her mother at this time (even if she is having trouble making ends meet).
The show features an intriguing talk between Farrah’s mother, Debra, and her father, Michael, as well. Debra claims that Farrah was the one attacking her in the domestic dispute and that she was only defending herself. After viewing Debra’s hot temper on past episodes, I find it hard to believe that Farrah was the instigator. Most likely, she is trying to not look like a villain on MTV.
Gary comes up with the idea for a road trip down to Florida with Amber. So Amber, Gary, baby Leah, and her dad all drive 16 hours to stay with her uncle. While they are down there, the uncle pressures Gary to marry Amber as soon as possible. He explains how in love they are and that they should just go for it. My question is: Has he watched Teen Mom AT ALL? I guess he missed the part where Amber flies off the handle and Gary leaves her and the baby every other day.
Eventually, Gary gives in and takes Amber for a walk on the beach. He whips out a ring and proposes to her in possibly the most unromantic fashion ever! He does not even get on one knee at first. He mutters, “Do you want to marry me?” This unfortunately is not romantic enough for Amber or executed correctly. Thanks to Amber we now all know it should be, “Will you marry me?” They finally get engaged, but it looks like in the next episode that will be out the window. The pattern of their relationship is miserably predictable.
Tyler is still having a difficult time trusting Catelynn after learning new facts about her communication and interaction with her ex-boyfriend in Florida. This happened THREE YEARS AGO. Tyler and Catelynn are probably becoming the second most unwatchable couple behind Amber and Gary.
Tyler suggests to Catelynn that they go to couples counseling, and she agrees wholeheartedly. After couples counseling, Tyler is still not satisfied. He asks to see Catelynn’s phone records to prove how much she has interacted with her ex. Requesting Catelynn’s phone records just seems like crossing the line to me. I really am routing for them, but the relationship might be too broken to mend.
The end of your first love can be a difficult hurdle to overcome. So I can understand why they are having such a tough time. Tyler either has to decide that the past is the past, or they both need to start healing and move on.
