An interview with Salt star, Angelina Jolie, delves into the movie’s behind-the scenes actions and stunts. Salt is due in theaters July 23rd and the actress talked more in an exclusive interview with Nightline’s co-anchor, Cynthia McFadden.
Jolie Portrays CIA Agent, Evelyn Salt, On the Run
In this movie, Angelina Jolie portrays a CIA agent who’s on the run in an effort to clear her name when she’s suspected of being a Russian sleeper-spy.
In the Washington, D.C interview with Nightline, the actress discussed her action-thriller role and mentioned, that she never wanted to be a Bond girl.
She just wanted to be Bond.
Evidently, Salt is her dream come true.
Russian Spy Headlines – “Salt” Parallels with Real Life
As current real-life headlines report Russian spies being taken into custody, Salt parallels with the movie’s premiere month.
“It’s bizarre, isn’t it?” a pensive Jolie said. “It’s been so bizarre for us — two halves. You know, a part of me feels, as a citizen of a country, you think, ‘I don’t want anything to affect our new positive relationship with Russia.’ And the other part of me is somebody who’s in a film, thinks, ‘My god, what timing.’ And this is so strange, because all through making this film, it was a question of, ‘Is it possible? Does it still exist today? Is it poignant? Is it relevant?'”
With timing this ironic, Salt may indeed be a blockbuster hit for the summer.
“Salt” Action-Packed Stunts not Diluted for Jolie
No sugar coating for Jolie was made in the movie’s stunt scenes. The tough-guy action sequences remained the same, as this tough-as-nails actress wanted no less. Jolie wanted nothing diluted in this flick.
She says of her character, Evelyn Salt, “Bizarre…she gets busted up herself. So, she’s..she’s, uh…yeah…I like that she’s not pretty in the end. I liked her.”
Cynthia McFadden asked Angelina if she’s ever made a fist and punched someone. The move star said she did once as a teenager, but it was brief altercation.
She firmed up the fact fighting isn’t a lot of fun and that the stunts were awkward at times.
“Real fighting is so awkward and not cool at all,” Jolie said in the interview.
Would Angelina Risk Death to Do Stunts?
“Because I have six children, I would never do something that could kill me,” the actress said. “But there were things that were — I could have broken my arm or broken my leg, or that kind of thing.”
Does the Salt star think she’s a tough girl at all?
“In some way,” she said, “I suppose. Or I wouldn’t be able to do the film. … I’m fine to get dirty and tough with the best of ’em, you know? Because I would believe in what I’m fighting for. And I’m not afraid. But I’m also just Mommy, and goofy Mommy, so, you know.”
Will this film be the start of a new James Bond-style franchise for Angelina Jolie? There was talk of a possible franchise for the actress with Sony Pictures co-chair, Amy Pascal.
