The Minnesota Vikings had a very eventful day on Day 2 of the 2010 NFL Draft in comparison to Day 1. The fact that the Minnesota Vikings had an early pick in the second round of the NFL Draft does mean that so many people out there who love the Vikings had plenty to either cheer or boo about in Day 2 of the 2010 NFL Draft.
They finally got that cornerback that they were looking for. The Minnesota Vikings drafted Chris Cook out of the university of South Carolina for example. The fact of the matter is that Cook can learn things from a veteran defensive back like Lito Sheppard. Sheppard doesn’t have the skills necessarily anymore, but he certainly has the knowledge as noted on the Vikings Blog.
They did end up picking one of the most talked about players leading up to the draft in Toby Gerhart. Gerhart was perfectly honest in admitting that his race likely hurt his draft status as a running back as noted by the San Jose Mercury News. He was not highly criticized for this remark because Gerhart and others do realize that most running backs in the NFL are black. It is a statistical fact.
Gerhsart should be able to make an immediate impact on the process with the Minnesota Vikings. Gerhart as a fairly high pick in the 2010 NFL Draft will be needed to make an immediate impact as the Minnesota Vikings try and replace former back up running back Chester Taylor. Chester Taylor signed with the Chicago Bears. That is a big gap that the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings struggled with the New Orleans Saints pass rush. This means that they want to look for an offensive line standout. The best option there may be a guy like Ciron Black. Ciron Black is a guy who played for the LSU Tigers. The SEC is quite a powerful conference.
The Vikings still have some holes that they need to fill. I have a lot of respect for both E.J. Henderson and the Iowa grad Chad Greenway at linebacker, but both of these fairly youthful players can be quite injury prone. Jasper Brinkley is making progress at linebacker as well as noted by NFLDraft Scout, but there are other people who can develop a great scheme under Leslie Fraizer. Leslie Fraizer is great at putting people in the best possible spot.
The Minnesota Vikings can also add to their receiving corps on the final day of the NFL Draft. They seem to be one major weapon short in my estimation if someone like Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice or Berrian end up going down. This seems like an obvious point for the Minnesota Vikings to address in the 2010 NFL Draft, but it is important. You want to give Brett Favre or someone like Sage Rosenfels as many options as they want to have within reason.
