Miley Cyrus is setting her sights high, maybe a little too high, for her new music video’s potential. In a recent MTV “Frame by Frame Video” interview, Miley equates her new video, “Can’t Be Tamed”, to Michael Jackson’s, “Thriller”.
The young Cyrus says that she thinks the dancing routine in her new video will end up like the dancing in Jackson’s “Thriller”. “Everyone is going to want to learn the moves”.
The “Can’t Be Tamed” video is a mediocre first attempt at an adult video for the 17-year-old Cyrus and it is far from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”.
It wasn’t easy watching the little girl known as “Hannah Montana” dance around in what looked more like an evil arch-angel outfit than the bird costume she describes in her video. It might just be too much too soon.
Miley’s parents were fine with her appearance in this new video, in fact her mother was on the set as it was being filmed. The scantily dressed Cyrus, along with her provocative moves was not as disturbing as the under current of the dark side feel you get from the video.
Cyrus talks about her wings, which were added in after the video was filmed as a special effect, as being “beautiful”. The wings are more gargoyle like than they are pretty.
The music was nothing special, just run of the mill pop stuff. The lyrics talk about her getting her own way and why she “Can’t Be Tamed”. She sings about it “being in her DNA” and this is “who she is”.
The dancing that Miss Cyrus calls, “Thriller” like, is unorganized looking in most of the video. There is a shot of the dancers following her down a hallway that appears to be choreographed, but the dancing in the cage looks unrehearsed.
I started to laugh when I saw her climbing out of a big nest. Why this struck me as funny, I am not sure, but at first sight it was comical.
Hopefully Miley Cyrus will come back down to earth and use the talent she was given and really show off her voice. This was nothing more than attempts at a Madonna or Lady GaGa spin off. Basically anyone could scream out these lyrics.
She does not have another “Thriller” on her hands here and she is wasting her time attempting to showcase her talents with the evil wings and pop style lyrics. There is no denying she has a voice of angels, she just is not using it in this video. It is ironic that the wings, which Miley is sporting in this video, resemble those of the biblical figure, Lucifer the fallen angel.
Why she is setting her sights at becoming like everyone else is beyond me?
