It’s hard to believe Michael Jackson is gone. Even harder to believe is that it has been a year since that tragic day! Michael Jackson left this life on June 25, 2009. At the age of 50, one of the greatest talents this world has seen was gone.
I remember sitting in my office thinking of what I needed to do to appease a customer when I heard the news. Unbelievable I said as my son relayed to me the story he was watching on television. I could not and did not want to believe the story of Michael Jackson being dead was true. No, not Michael Jackson. I remember immediately entering Yahoo Search on my computer and entering Michael Jackson. There it was- “Michael Jackson is Dead” at the top of the search.
Today as we reflect on a man who had an amazing talent, I thought of his songs. Being that there is not one of his songs that is not absolutely wonderful, I decided to reflect on those that meant more to me than others.
Michael Jackson: Ben (Ben)
From the movie ‘Ben’. Michael sings the Title song telling the story of a child whose only friend is a rat. In reflecting back on his childhood, it is said that Michael did have a pet rat. In this video, Michael was still the handsome well grounded young man we all love to remember.
Michael Jackson: We Are the World (We Are The World Video)
Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote ‘We Are the World” which was co produced by Quincy Jones. We Are the World made millions for the South Africa Relief Effort in 1985. With the intensity of the words and the collaborative effort of twenty-one superstars singing solo and a combined chorus of the same with twenty-three others, the song was a worldwide hit.
Michael Jackson: Rock with You (Michael Jackson Sings Rock with You)
Rock with You was released on November 3, 1979. While it has no significant history behind the song, it was one of those that my husband played when we went on our first date. While playing the song, we would often be sitting on Pensacola Beach enjoying the moon, as its light seemed to glisten off the water. Not only was he amazing, the outfit worn while singing this was great!
Michael Jackson: I Want You Back (The Jackson 5)
Released in 1969, I remember standing in my back yard January 1, 1970 while the radio station WBOP in Pensacola introduced its’ audience to The Jackson 5 by playing this record. I think every female in Pensacola fell in love with the group. I fell in love with Jackie!
Michael Jackson: I’ll Be There (The Jackson 5 Sing “I’ll Be There”)
There was something extremely scintillating about the words and sound of ‘I’ll Be there’. Whenever I heard this tune, I would reflect on the first love of my life. I will not go into details about this, but we all remember that very first person we fell in love with!
While his life was filled with controversy, Michael was an amazing talent and a great man!
