Memorial Day is one of my favorite holidays–not only because it is the unofficial kick-off to the summer, but I think it is so important for each and every person to remember the sacrifices our soldiers have made for this great nation. This Memorial Day weekend, Denver is going all the way–from an arts festival, downtown rock concert and baseball game. What better way to start off summer than catching a baseball game (Go Dodgers!), checking out art from local artists and listening to music from four different stages? Here are some of the Memorial Day events and festivals in Denver over the holiday weekend, May 28-31:
Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
For those of you who love baseball, check out the rivals play each other during a three-day series at Coors Field. From May 28-30, you may buy tickets to enjoy the game at Coors Field, and root for your favorite team. With plenty of Los Angeles transplants in the stadium, there is cheering for each team. If you go to the game on the 30th, be sure to wear sunscreen if you sit in a sunny area, since it is a day game.

Denver Day of Rock
In the second annual event, Downtown Denver becomes a massive free outdoor rock concert, and this year there are four venues and over 20 bands taking the stage. The concert, spread out over the 16th Street Mall, runs from 2:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on May 29th. Located downtown are going to be numerous beer and food venues, so you will have plenty of choices to eat and drink while you are at the festival all afternoon. The headlining band is ‘The Romantics’, who are best known for their song that graced the opening credits of the hit show “Friends”.

Downtown Denver Arts Festival
During the entire Memorial Day weekend, the Denver Pavilions transforms into a free outdoor art gallery, with featured works of art from Colorado’s own artists. Browse the dozens of gallery booths, and even pick up art for a gift or for your own home. Purchasing art from the festival helps out artists, and boosts up revenue for the state’s artistic community. Check out the free festival May 28-31, at 4 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday through Monday.
