Mel Kiper’s 2010 draft grades are the biggest draft analysis of all. Once the Mel Kiper 2010 draft grades came in, it was the last word on the NFL draft. It is also the last word from the unofficial draft guru until 2011, as he goes into hibernation for the next nine months. Like the groundhog, he won’t have to see his shadow and come out to begin his mock drafts until around February. Now that his predictions have given way to reality, the Mel Kiper 2010 draft grades offer his final judgment on how well everyone made out.
Although his opinion is the most high profile, it is hardly the only one nowadays. Kiper has turned everyone into a mock draft expert over the years – and even if they’re wrong in getting the picks right, they try to rate them anyway. Draft grades have been coming in all weekend, so by the time Kiper’s came in, they may have sounded almost like everyone else. But some of them were a bit different, nonetheless.
The Mel Kiper 2010 draft grades are actually pretty low as only two teams were given an A. The Seattle Seahawks got one of them, which follows suit with what most pundits said. But the Baltimore Ravens got the other A, as Kiper praises them for getting two potential first round picks, Terrance Cody and Sergio Kindle, in round two.
Behind these two leaders, only Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, Arizona and Detroit got B+ marks. With only six teams getting B+ or higher, the Mel Kiper 2010 draft grades seem to have few standouts. Although this was projected as the deepest draft in a while, only a select few really took advantage of it.
Eight teams got a B mark, including Pittsburgh, Chicago and San Francisco – although the 49ers got a lot of A grades from others. Four franchises each got a B-, C+ and C, while five got a C-. The club with the lowest of the Mel Kiper 2010 draft grades was Jacksonville, which is not surprising.
The Jaguars were slammed all week for their picks – particularly top choice Tyson Alualu – and Kiper added on to it with a D. So like many others, Kiper had the Seahawks on top and the Jaguars at the bottom. His 2010 draft grades may have varied in between, however.
With his last word on the 2010 draft, Kiper now leaves the ESPN cameras to begin work on his 2011 mock draft. He may be absent for a while, but by the time the 2011 offseason begins, he will be back giving advice and projections non-stop, like he never left.
For now, the Mel Kiper 2010 draft grades have put a close on this year, as he and the would be Kipers of the world will finally get to rest.
