by itchy fish

Pregnancy and the joys of motherhood are now accompanied with clothing and styles that keep the soon-to-be moms looking good. Many retailers such as Old Navy, Motherhood, Gap and Ann Taylor have created lines available for every stage of pregnancy at affordable rates. Although there are many maternity styles available, often times, pregnant women choose sweats because they’re easy, cheap and comfortable but this is not the only alternative that can be found in your closet. You most likely have stylish summer clothes which can act as stand-ins until you’re ready to make some maternity purchases. Check out these easy going wardrobe possibilities.

Tunics

Long tunics are available through many retailers and are a great alternative to an early maternity shirt. A tunic may have an empire waistline or can be fitted all the way down to the hemline. It’s longer than the average shirt so it even if it does ride up a bit with your growing belly it still gets the job done. If your derriere has not increased in size by much a banded tunic can create a stylish look with leggings.

Empire Waist

Many of the stylish baby doll dresses, shirts and dresses come with an empire waist. Due to it’s style, which is fitted through the bust and directly underneath and looser body you can wear a top of this sort for quite a few months into your pregnancy.

Fold-Over Gaucho or Yoga Pants

Although gauchos are not as popular as leggings the folded top and loose fit really accommodate a growing belly. The folded waist can be worn below your abdomen and still stay up. During the summer these pants look great with tong tanks.

Boy-Cut Pants

If you’re only gaining weight in the upper portion of your body boy-cut pants may be an alternative to traditional maternity pants until you absolutely have to get a pair. Due to its lower cut waist band it can worn below your belly. If your belly is a bit too big but your bum and legs are still the same size unbutton and unzip the pants and use a larger size or men’s belt to hold them in place.

Maxi Dress

Maxi dresses are the rage in many clothing lines. The simple cut of the dress and the different lengths can easily accommodate your ever-changing body. Even before purchasing this style dress make sure to try it on. Your bust size will increase also so if the top is fitted you may need re-evaluate if you can still wear this style.

Convertible Dress
Convertible dresses are meant to be both skirts and dresses and offer a simple solution for easy summer outfits. These dresses allow room-to-grow during your pregnancy. If worn as a dress the bust can stretch with your growing curves and can be worn with a cardigan on cooler days.
