It’s a Girl – for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon.
“Something special is on the way,” Mariah Carey announced in March, as pregnancy rumors circulated around the popular R&B singer and her husband, Nick Cannon.
Mariah Carey (40) and Nick Cannon (30), who married in April 2008 and renewed their vows earlier this year, have dodged rumors of impending parenthood lately, merely winking at the suggestion. A few celebrity gossip reporters (such as the National Enquirer and Star Pulse) have gone so far as to propose that Mariah Carey may be expecting twins.
However, on June 7th, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon did welcome a baby girl – with a whelp and a yelp. ChaCha, the couple’s Jack Russell Terrier, gave birth to a healthy female puppy.
Proud puppy parent Mariah Carey picked up her Blackberry and posted this announcement on her Twitter page at 5:44 p.m. on June 7th:
“ChaCha just had her baby! Its a giiirl!!! Anybody want a beautiful Jack russell puppy?! Jk: ) lol.”

Nick Cannon had already publicly hinted at their Jack Russell Terrier’s pregnancy.
Puppy’s nearly coincides with 20th anniversary of Mariah Carey’s debut album.
Mariah Carey will celebrate the 20th anniversary of her debut album, the self-titled Mariah Carey, on Saturday, June 12, 2010, just five days after the arrival of ChaCha’s baby girl puppy. Perhaps the puppy’s name will carry a musical allusion (direct or indirect) to one of the song titles from Mariah Carey’s first album release.
Here are the song titles from Mariah Carey (1990), listed in playlist order: “Vision of Love,” “There’s Got to Be a Way,” “I Don’t Wanna Cry,” “Vanishing,” “All in Your Mind,” “Alone in Love,” “You Need Me,” “Sent from Up Above,” “Prisoner” and “Love Takes Time.”
Fans will have to wait for the puppy’s name announcement (from Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon), to see if it fits.
Or perhaps, if Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are also expecting a baby, they might offer ChaCha’s puppy a related moniker, such as Baby, Bertha, Embarazada (Spanish for “pregnant”), Enceinte (French for “pregnant”), Expectant, Gravida (Portuguese for “pregnant”), or even Preview.
The rumors are certainly showing Mariah Carey to be pregnant. Of course, if the couple truly are expecting a baby, then Mariah Carey will personally be showing (as in, a baby bump) soon.
Of course, even if Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are fueling the rumor mill by maintaining a mysterious pregnant pause about announcing a possible pregnancy, they are unlikely to begin a puppy mill with their beloved Jack Russell Terrier, ChaCha.
