Making a Spider Using Crafts

by itchyfish

Making insects using arts and crafts can be both easy and fun. It’s great for anyone who loves insects and doing crafts, because you get to combine them both in one fun project. One insect craft that almost anyone can participate in is creating a spider out of different materials.

There are two different ways to make a spider with arts and crafts. One way uses cotton balls and pipe cleaners, while another way uses paper plates and sticks. Both craft projects take a little patience, but the steps to either are pretty simple to do.

Here are the two different materials and directions for making a spider using crafts. You can try either one, or pick the one that sounds preferable to you. Some children may need the help or supervision of an adult with parts of this craft (such as the cutting).

Making A Spider With Cotton Balls and Pipe Cleaners.

Materials:

Large cotton balls (colorful or white).
Pipe cleaners.
Scissors.
Glue.
Googly eyes.
Construction paper or foam shape stickers.

Directions:

1. Glue two of the large cotton balls together and allow the glue to dry.

2. While you let the glue dry, take four pipe cleaners and cut them in half to make the legs with. If you need them shorter, then you can cut them in half again. Just be sure you have eight even legs.

3. Once the glue is try, glue the ends of the eight pipe cleaners to the cotton balls. Be sure to glue four on each side. Allow the glue time to dry.

4. Once the glue dries, you can glue on the googly eyes. If you do not have or want to use the googly eyes, then you can cut out construction paper or use shaped foam stickers to make the eyes. You can also use markers, but whether or not it shows up will depend on the color of your cotton balls. Allow any glue that is used to dry.

5. Once all of the glue is dry, you can now make a nose and mouth for the spider if desired. You can use cut out pieces of the construction paper, use the foam shaped stickers, or use the markers to make the rest of the face.

Making A Spider With Paper Plates and Sticks.

Materials:

Two paper plates.
Craft sticks or popsicle sticks.
Scissors.
Glue or tape.
Large googly eyes.
Construction paper or foam shape stickers.
Crayons or colored pencils.

Directions:

1. Take one of the paper plates and cut it into a smaller circle. It does not have to be too small, but make sure it is smaller than the other paper plate.

2. If desired, use the crayons or colored pencils to color the paper plates.

3. Use the glue or tape to tape the two paper plate together. You can do this by putting the glue over the edge of one of the paper plates and then gluing it to the edge of the other paper plate (overlapping them a little). Allow a little space on the paper plates for the glue, so that it will attach and stick together easily. Then allow time for the glue to dry.

You can also take the edge of one of the paper plates, place it over the edge of the other (overlapping them a little), and taping them together.

4. Take the popsicle sticks or craft sticks and glue four to each side of the larger paper plate, to act as the spider legs. Allow the glue to dry. If the craft sticks are too skinny for the glue to hold, then you can use the tape to attach them to the paper plate.

5. Take the large googly eyes or cut out eyes out of construction paper and glue them to the smaller paper plate, which will act as the head. An alternative would be to use the foam shaped stickers as eyes. Allow any glue to dry.

6. Cut out the construction paper or use the foam shaped stickers to create the rest of the face, such as the nose and mouth. Once again, allow any glue to dry.

You can do either or both of these spider crafts, as they are both easy to do. These two crafts are great for learning about insects, decorating for Halloween, or just for doing an arts and crafts projects.

With the simple steps for making two spiders, either craft is sure to be a craft that children and adults will enjoy participating in.
