I may be a bit biased writing an article about Lush products. I’m absolutely and utterly obsessed with them. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way let me be the first to say that you are missing out if you haven’t stepped into a Lush store. It’s a one of a kind experience.
My mom dragged me to the closest one (which in reality isn’t very close to us) promising that I’d love it. I was in a bit of a funk that day and didn’t really want to shop for smelly things. The minute we walked into the store however I inhaled the strange and alluring scents and was immediately intrigued. The sales people can be a bit overwhelming sometimes, but if you look past it you’ll see that they are there to help you (and yes of course sell, so just stand your ground if you’re really not interested in something).
This will partially be a review and partially be a guide to Lush. I can’t ever pass up the opportunity to boast about certain products. Like I said above the sales people are there to sell, but in the long run they can also be very helpful. If you ask them about their skincare line they can point you in the right direction as to what products will suit your needs best. At the time I popped into my first Lush store I had horrible breakouts all along my chin and sometimes my forehead. It was awful. I’m almost 27 and didn’t start these breakouts until I was about 24. I’m glad it didn’t happen when I was going through puberty, but let me tell you it’s no walk in the park in your mid twenties either.
I hadn’t really planned on getting a skincare line. I’d pretty much just given up on trying different products and had settled on the line that didn’t break me out as much as the rest. I had also switched from Bare Minerals to Everyday Minerals which is much more pure. After perusing the many bars of soap and other unique scented concoctions in Lush I happened upon their skincare wall. There were so many lotions and potions I had no idea where to even begin. Fear not though, the trusty sales person set me on the right path.
She began by asking me how my skin was, where I broke out, where I was dry and where I was oily. Then she asked what kind of products I currently used. After going over my whole schpeal she pointed me to three main products. Ultrabland makeup remover, Tea Tree Water Toner and Fresh Farmacy face wash. As she tested the products on my hand she explained that using everyday cleansers wasn’t doing much to actually clean my pores of all the muck from everyday makeup and environmental dirt. The Ultrabland makeup remover is composed of various oils which leech into your pores, suck out the oil in them and then you wipe it all away with the Tea Tree Water Toner spritzed onto a cotton pad. She went into detail about how everyday cleansers just wash the surface of your skin and since you’re using water it won’t get down and get the oil out of your pores. Water and oil are opposites. Oil attracts oil, which explains why Ultrabland works so well. It’s chock full of oils. So it attracts all the nasty oil out of your pores. It all made perfect sense to me as she demonstrated on the back of my hand. Bonus: The Tea Tree Water Toner is anti-inflammatory to help reduce redness from breakouts.
Aside from the nighttime routine of the Ultrabland and Tea Tree Water Toner I was also shown Fresh Farmacy which is a face wash bar composed of various fresh ingredients. The stand out ingredient is calamine. Remember when you were bitten by mosquitos as a kid and your mom would dot on the pepto bismol pink concoction to make it stop itching? Yep that’s the main ingredient in this beauty bar. It greatly reduces redness and puffiness in the face. The sales person recommended that I use this in the morning as a face wash and then just use my usual everyday lotion afterwards.
So after that lengthy explanation let me just say that my face has never looked OR felt so good. Within one week I noticed that I wasn’t breaking out as much and my face looked much much less red. Fast forward to four months since I originally purchased these items and here I am, still absolutely amazed with how well it’s worked. I struggled for over three years trying to find something that worked. I finally did!
Aside from their face care line Lush is best known for their soaps and bubble bars (and many other “luscious” body products). I’m completely addicted to their bubble bars. They froth up in the bathtub and make your skin feel so nice and smooth and soft (not to mention all of them smell absolutely heavenly). “Pop in Bath” and “Sunny Side” are my two favorite bubble bars. Currently the “Alkamar” soap bar is my body cleanser of choice but my preference changes with the seasons.
I have to admit that I’ve been trying to stick to only organic body products but I just couldn’t pass up these bath wonders.
