Love Thy Self: An Article for Women: Love Thy Intuition

by itchyfish

As much as we will describe intuition as a “gut feeling”, intuition is more in our brain than in our gut. Our “gut feeling” is not really a feeling. Feelings are usually associated with emotions-and intuition is not an emotion–it’s more of an observation.

I want to begin with why I named this article Love Thy Self. The second commandment is to love your neighbor as you love yourself. This is the simplest, yet most misunderstood commandment of them all. To love yourself as you love your neighbor is a simile. To do something like or as you do something means that those things should be the same, equal, or at least similar. To love thy neighbor as you love thy self means that the love you have for someone else and for yourself should be the same. Not less, not more- the same.

Commandment Eight: Love Thy Intuition

Well, I’m a young woman so I don’t know how credible I would be to you. This is an article about intuition, and women my age are never classified as the intuitive ones. But we young ones have an intuition, too. We’re just
guilty of not using it as much as others.

Intuition involves more brain activity than people (men) give us credit for. Sometimes our “female intuition” is thought to be some exclusive thing women have, when everyone has it-even men. Intuition is logic–intuition is reason.

Since men have been classified as the more logical or reasonable gender, female intuition is thought to be more of a feeling since women are more emotional. But when we use our intuition, it is a subconscious (or sometimes a conscious) gathering of information. We are observing the atmosphere, the person’s actions, their body language, the way they’re speaking to us, etc. We are making an educated observation.

Because our intuition is an educated observation, it is important that we treat it as the valuable asset that it is. With all the new technology, people require so much written, hand held proof for everything. I’ve seen women feel as if their man was cheating on them, but ruled it out because they have no proof in black and white that he was cheating. These are women that ignore their intuition or have possibly allowed men to belittle their intuition.

Our intuition can help us make decisions that have nothing to do with proof. After the book The Secret was written, people are now paying attention to the power of the brain. We now pay attention to “energies” and “vibes” and such. Our intuitions are no more than an analysis of the energies and vibes around us.

One thing that I love about Oprah Winfrey is that she discusses these kinds of things all the time, and she is very passionate about them. She once had a show about women’s intuition. One woman had a funny feeling something was going on in her home. She installed a surveillance camera in her home, and found that a man was breaking into her home and snooping through her underwear drawer.

All I’m trying to say is to love an embrace this wonderful gift you have. I’m slowly teaching myself to listen to those little voices inside, even if it seems silly. I’ve found that those silly voices are always right. These voices are very small whispers, but they are there-and we need to listen.
