When purchasing new makeup, I came across a sale on L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara. I love L’Oreal products, and this mascara promised even more volume than L’Oreal Voluminous, which I usually choose. Since it was on sale and promised more, I decided to try something new. Following is my product review of L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara.
Normally running about $10, I was able to purchase L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara for $5 at my local Kroger grocery store. I chose the waterproof version in the color black.
L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara Product Claims. This mascara is intended to be the biggest volume building mascara ever, with up to 12x the volume given to lashes. It is claimed to enhance the thickness of lashes without clumping. You are supposed to get instant results in “just one sweep” with a 50% larger brush.
50% Larger Brush. When removing the applicator from the bottle, I could tell the brush was fuller, rounder and bushier in appearance. This seemed like a good sign. However, there was no glossy appearance of the mascara on the brush, it had sort of a matte look to it.
Application of Mascara. Application of this mascara was difficult to say the least. Starting at the base of the lashes and moving up and out, the mascara did not spread smoothly. It clumped almost instantly while trying to apply it. So I checked L’Oreal’s website for mascara application tips. Their tips did nothing but increase the clumps with this product.
Attempting to Correct Clumps Cause by L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara. Between coats, I like to use an eyelash comb to keep lashes separated and clump-free. This was nearly impossible with this mascara. Combing did remove some of the larger clumps, but my lashes were unable to be separated where the mascara had caused them to stick together.
What Lashes Look Like after Using this Mascara. What a nightmare. I ended up with lashes stuck together so badly that it looked like I had about a dozen very thick lashes. L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara was so thick and dry that my lower lashes barely showed at all, as the extra thick brush and product were unable to reach these shorter lashes.
Removing L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara. I generally use baby oil to remove waterproof mascara and have never had problems. That is, until this product. The product dried so firmly and was so think and clumpy I had to press and hold the baby oil soaked cotton pad against my lashes for several minutes before the product would start coming off.
Overall Evaluation of Product. I was extremely disappointed in this mascara. I absolutely love L’Oreal Voluminous mascara and so will return to that. Even good companies can release a bad product line, and that is the case with this. Perhaps over time, the collagen in the product would help each lash plump up, but I don’t want the daily struggle just to find out. L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen mascara receives a 0.5 out of 5 on my rating scale, the half a point is because it did add color.
