Collecting books at Neopets is a popular sideline of players; some collect them for galleries, others to hoard and resell when prices go up on them. I’ve written a few articles about the cheapest books at the site as well as spooky ones that are great for Halloween but I never covered the book stores that sell some of the titles. If you have been playing for a long time chances are you will have some books that are classified as Special; these could be from the Advent Calendar, site events or prizes from things like the Daily Dare Challenge.
Books are a great investment because they are one-time-use items. Once you read one of them to your Neopet they vanish from your inventory. You never know when something is going to get retired or be used for an avatar. A great example of that is the price of “Gourmet Cooking For Your Pet” and how the price shot through the roof when it was revealed that it was part of the Chef Bonju avatar. There are a lot of books that are inexpensive to buy so you can hoard hundreds or thousands of copies of them to sell for a profit when the prices rebound on them.
Sutek’s Scrolls: Located in the Lost Desert, this is a great place to stock up on sandy themed reads. This doesn’t restock all that often so you may have to hit the shop every couple of minutes to find a good deal on a book you want to read to your pet. Remember to limit the number of refreshes so you don’t end up with a shop ban. Titles you can find in this shop include: “Sakhmet Tales”, “Cursed Scroll”, “Advanced Papyrus Making”, “Lost Scroll of Lost Scrolls”, “Delicate Papyrus”, “Ruki Sand Sculpture”, “Ancient Scarab Scroll”, “Sakhmet Petpets”, “Royal To-Do List Scroll”, “Princely Proclamations”, “Tome of Selket”, “Pazo the Lonely Aisha”, “Soggy Scroll” and “Eye-Sha”.
Neovian Printing Press: One of the newer books shops at Neopets is the Printing Press. Lots of cool books for your pet to read and enjoy and some of them are extremely reasonable in price. To get the best deals on them remember to shop on the third of the month when the Half Off Sale is happening. Some of the books you can get at the Printing Press are: “Packing Plans”, “Brightvale Bi-Weekly”, “Faerieland Gazette”, “Ugga Ugg Times”, “Roo Island Magazine”, “Altador at a Glance”, “Secrets of the Chocofactory”, “Battledome Digest”, “Kiko Lake Happenings”, “Top Hat Fashions”, “Stories from Beyond” and “Neopia Weekly”. My two personal favorites are “Grave Digging Manual” and “Crumpet Mongering”.
Faerieland Bookshop: Even though most of the books sold in this shop have a faerie theme, some of them are nice to stock up on during the half off sale. You can hold on to them and hope that they increase in price or get retired or sell them when the players shops rebound from the once a month sale. If you visit the shop often then some of these titles may have a very familiar ring to them: “The Healing Springs”, “A New Day”, “Playing with Fire”, “Dream Clouds”, “The Green Book”, “Soup Faerie Book”, “Library Tales”, “Breathe”, “The End of the Tunnel”, “The Wonders of Water”, “The Book of Ice”, “After the Battle”, “Faerie Colouring Book” and “Faerie Folk”
Booktastic Books: One of the main reasons people love to hit this shop to look for deals is the “Booktastic Book Club”. This is an independent feature from the regular “Neopian Book Award”. You really know to know the average selling price on the books sold in this shop before you start buying them; in most cases you can get a better deal on them on the Shop Wizard. Some of these books are also requested for quest at the Faerieland Employment Agency so it doesn’t hurt to have five or ten extras in your Safety Deposit Box. “Collecting Moon Rock”, “Space Exploration”, “Oranges Are Better”, “Kreludan Encyclopedia”, “Crater Dwellings”, “Defending Your Neohome”, “Moon Missions”, “Constellation Spotting”, “Kreludan Cookie Book”, “Orange Central History”, “Kreludan Bed Time Stories”, “Orange Grundo Survival Handbook”, “105 Lava Cake Recipes”, “The Threat Outside”, “Kreludan Facts”, “Victory Is Ours” and “Galactic Adventures”
Brightvale Books: Most of these books can be found for a lot less than what the shop sells them for if you check the Shop Wizard; even when they Half Off Sale is going on, chances are you can get a much sweeter deal elsewhere. There are some rare books that surface from time to time but constantly refreshing the store will result in a shop ban and you don’t want that to happen! “Hagans Secrets”, “Brightvale Architecture”, “Wheel of Knowledge Book”, “Bori of Brightvale”, “Brightvale Wisdom”, “Not-So-Disgusting Dung Uses”, “Tales of Bravery”, “Brightvale Guide to Stained Glass Windows”, “History of the Brightvale Book Shop”, “Digging for Knowledge”, “Preserving Berries”, “About Roberta”
Words of Antiquity: If you are in to collecting stranger books, tablets and scrolls then this is a shop that you have to visit often because you never know what is going to show up on a restock. “Qasalan Etiquette”, “Qasalan Laws”, “Slimy Bog Scroll”, “Cooking with Qando Fruit”, “Rope-Bound Tablet”, “Scroll of Serpents”, “Broken Tablet”, “The Qasalan Royal History”, “Qasalan Healing Techniques”. As mentioned with other shops, you really do need to know what the selling price is on one of these before you start clearing a shop.
Magical Bookshop: This is one of the main shops for books; it sells more titles than any of the others and if the one that sees the most traffic when the site is having the Half Off Sale. You can get some great deals on books if you are trying to restock but there are some that you can find for a lot less in players shops using the Shop Wizard. Some of the ones I caught on the latest restock include: “Quiggle Art Book”, “Snow Architecture”, “Grarrl Power”, “How To Catch A Cybunny”, “Scaredy Acara”, “Zafara Quests”, “Algebra”, “Grundo Food”, “All About Light Faeries”, “Learn Social Skills”, “Healing Koi”.
Moltaran Books: One of the newer bookshops at Neopets; some of these books were involved in scams aimed towards players that were not aware of the new section of the site. There aren’t a lot of books in the section but if you are lucky enough to hit a restock you might be able to grab a copy of one of the following books: “We Like it Hot”, “Cooling the Fires”, “Dirt is Your Friend”, “Interior Decorating with Rocks and Cogs” and “Get Geared”. They also have some interesting foods there too, check out my article about Molten Morsels if you haven’t seen the new offerings.
