Last winter I splurged and purchased a set of LL Bean flannel sheets as a Christmas present to myself, and I loved those sheets so much that when I saw the LL Bean Pima Cotton Percale sheets were listed as a recommended buy in Consumer Reports magazine, I definitely wanted to buy them.
We have a king size bed, so these were pricey again, the king size retails for $44 for the flat and $44 for the fitted sheets, then of course the pillowcases are extra as well. That might sound like a lot of money, and it is, but sometimes buying higher quality products pays off in the long run.
The LL Bean Pima Cotton Percale sheets have a thread count of 280, but they honestly feel softer and silkier and more like sheets with a count of 400 or higher. They come in a variety of colors, including cream, lake blue, light blue, light yellow, moss green, pale orchid and white. For $5 more you can choose a floral or a striped design, but I always stick with the plain colors because I don’t know how I might update my bedroom in the coming years. You can’t go wrong with solid colors.
What I love the most about my LL Bean flannel sheets is the extra long top or flat sheet, it covers my blankets by a good foot, and I wanted to be sure that these Pima Cotton Percale sheets also had the extra length on the flat sheets, so before ordering I called LL Bean and inquired. I was elated to learn that they do indeed, the king size flat sheets measure 108″ wide and 110″ in length.
I have been a LL Bean customer for years, but until this past year I had never purchased their sheets, and I have been missing out. Not only does LL Bean have a fantastic satisfaction guarantee (for the life of the product), but they also have (in my opinion) unsurpassed quality. My Consumer Reports July 2010 issue actually compares the LL Bean Pima Cotton Percale sheets to the Calvin Klein Home Collection Double Row Cord Percale sheets, which retail for $275. The magazine goes on to say that the Calvin Klein sheets were not as strong or as crisp as the LL Bean sheets!
The LL Bean fitted sheets have deep pockets, and although we have a pillow top mattress, the sheets fit nicely onto the thicker mattress. They also stay in place, which is a pet peeve for me when it comes to sheets that don’t stay on the bed! They come out of the washer looking great, and are not too wrinkled. If you fold them up as soon as your remove them from the dryer they don’t need to be ironed.
Making the bed is a pleasure with these over sized sheets. The flat sheet is so long that you have plenty of room for tucking the ends under the mattress and still have enough sheet left to fold it back over your blankets for nearly a foot. This feature alone makes these sheets worth buying.
If you have never slept on pima cotton sheets, you might want to give them a try. And if you are looking for deluxe pima cotton sheets, I would highly recommend the LL Bean Pima Cotton Percale sheets. You will pay a little more for them, but the luxurious feel will make you glad you did. And remember, if you are not satisfied LL Bean will refund your money. Want to save even more money? Charge these sheets on your LL Bean Visa card and the shipping will be free! Hard to beat a deal like that.
