Lindsay Lohan may have every dog in the neighborhood at her ankle if she uses one of the techniques that are used to fool her alcohol detecting ankle bracelet, but she can sip a cold beer while she is being nibbled at!
The NY Daily News talked to a few probation officers and asked questions about the integrity of the ankle bracelet that detects alcohol. The Probation Officers said there are many techniques that will fool that device.
The best way is to just keep your foot in a bucket of ice water so it cannot sweat. The bracelet reads the chemicals coming off your perspiration, so if you have no perspiration, no chemicals are being released. The PO’s said that the bracelet will register a different reading if it is tampered with, but the ice water will not produce that reading.
Another way is to take a trip to your local deli and get some cold meet. Bologna stuffed between the bracelet and your leg in the area of the sensors will stop the alcohol from registering on the bracelet. Again, beware of neighborhood dogs, you will be like a walking meat cart for them. Any of the cold meats will work. This might register a different reading than her normal reading, which may prompt the probation department to call her in for a live test for alcohol, but it may not.
The device takes a baseline reading, which is when the wearer has no alcohol in their system. This baseline reading needs to show up daily and it means the person did not consume alcohol. If the person consumed alcohol, the perspiration will have chemicals in it from the alcohol, which comes out through the pores in your skin. The ankle bracelet picks up the chemicals and the base line reading changes, signaling alcohol use. The baseline reading will also be off if the bracelet was tampered with. These techniques, according to the PO’s usually do not change the readings enough to be noticed.
Once the bracelet has the information, the bracelet transmits the registered readings to the device that is plugged into your home phone. The ankle bracelet can keep three days maximum readings on it before it erases and starts over again. Each time Lindsay is within the proximity of the phone jack transmitter, her ankle bracelet will down load all the stored readings and reset itself to record some more. Because Lindsay is not mandated to her home, she could go to a friends house and party, party, party, and wait the three days before coming home. By then the information that has her alcohol readings will be recorded over because she was not near her phone to download this.
The Scram device requires that the ankle bracelet wearer spend 10 minutes a day 20 feet near the phone modem transmitting device and they usually request that it is at the same time every day. This allows a daily down load of the information. It is not known if Lindsay needs to follow this request due to her work schedule.
If this is the case there is always the ice water or the walking doggie treat – wearing the bologna!
